Can anybody tell me whether BA give out pj's in First Class on the Syd to Sin leg? (SWMBO likes them)

Also, does anybody have any recent experience in checking in for the BA16 flight, if so what was the earliest that you were able to check in? (was it BA or Qantas check in)

Hi there

Qantas staff do the BA ground handling at SYD Int, however the BA counters are separate from the main QF ones.

Check in opened at 1240 for me when I flew BA16 2 months ago.

Hope this helps.

They indeed gave us pyjamas when we flew this leg in first class - they only had one size available though which was very slack of them. It was large for everyone which was too small for me by far. They also gave out slippers which again were far too small for most people - about equivalent to a mens size 7 whereas I need an 11.

On the same trip to Europe we flew Malaysian first class from KUL to CDG and Emirates first class from SIN to MEL. Those 2 trips were just so far superior to BA that it was incredible. They had choices for everything (pjs and slippers), the service was better, the food was better, the seats were way way superior.

BA really just wasn't up to first class standard. The seat was narrow, very firm and uncomfortable, not very adjustable.

Overall if you have a choice then don't bother with BA first class in comparison to the others I have flown. Don't get me wrong it is of course way better than economy but no better than business class and nowhere near as good as other first class.

The Concorde Room at LHR was absolutely amazing and the best part of that leg of the trip. The best lounge I have been in. Sadly Malaysians first class lounge at KUL was really disappointing.

Oops I misread your post - I thought you said LHR to SIN. Same comments re seat etc though.

They handed them out on BA9/10 (BKK-SYD-BKK).......so I'd assume, yes.

IMO the pj's are better than QF J but not QF F.

We were on the 747 from LHR to SIN but I asked the crew and they said the seats and the config were exactly the same as on the new planes. They were very narrow in comparison to Emirates and Malaysian and only just wide enough for sitting and nowhere near wide enough for sleeping in my opinion. They were also very very firm which I didn't like and didn't have a wide range of adjustments. My wife absolutely loved the massage options on the other 2 flights.

You also don't get individual airflow adjustments unlike both Emirates and Malaysian which meant the cabin was really hot.

Also there is very little storage space unlike the other 2.

It doesn't sound too good re the seats, was this old or new First?

No doubt BA OF is a dated, filthy, old joke.

NF is pretty good. Sure, not worlds best but a decent cabin none the less.

Actually, Menzies are the BA check in agents.

As for the F review. Sorry but I have to disagree. BA wins hands down for me for soft and hard product. NF is all about the calmness, elegance of the cabin and I have always had exemplary service on BA. The Purser always works in F and this will be a crew member who has spent their life as cabin crew, and knows great customer service.

The cabin is stunning, from the electric window shads with their blue glow, to the control knob for the bed. Catering is great, and always try the recommended options. BA does desserts like noonelse.

I would rather BA F over QF where staff are too casual for my liking. You don't need to call me Mr X., but definitely do not call me 'mate.' Last time I flew QF F the crew member actually scolded me for ordering a Bailey's which I took a sip of, and decided I wanted to sleep. He literally said "You shouldn't have ordered it then."

Make use of You First for any special requests. Even as a couple we tend to travel in 1A and 2A.

Has it changed back again?
I flew BA ex-SYD in March and QF were doing it at counter B. I remarked to the QF agent that I was surprised and he said that they had been given the contract several months prior.

My last BA F flight was last September. Didn't realise it had changed, so I stand corrected.

That explains it, I was getting really confused and thought there must be some special secret F check-in and I had missed it

I actually like both Qantas and BA service in F for different reasons. BA tends to be smooth as silk and they seem to really be able to anticipate your needs e.g. Noticing that you have gone off to change out of PJs and getting rid of bedding before you come back (while still checking when you come back that you are happy with it). . Qantas is more egalitarian and friendly and I enjoy that as well. I like BA new first, but I think the A380 is a bit better. However my biggest problem with BA is the food. We did two legs last year both in new F, JHB - LHR and LHR - JFK and the food was just bad tasteless, over cooked. Canapés not particularly nice. I don't know whether we were just unlucky, but so far Qantas wins hands down on food. Pity as I have always been a fan of BA first (not J, where I have always found service a bit of a lottery).

Got the pjs on the singapore to sydney leg a few weeks back in F so id say you will get them, Enjoy

Assume BA still has no pjs in J? Doing BA16 in a couple of wks... only oneworld airline I could get reward seats on. Coming back on combination of BA and QF

Just arrived at LHR FrustratedQP and can confirm that each of the two legs on BA16 provides the same service and products - navy cotton PJs, amenities bag, slippers, socks etc. Enjoy.
