Qantas
Platinum 1
Hello there everyone,

I have two questions that I cannot find an answer in the QF website.

1.- If I gift Gold status to someone, how long does that last? I am mid way through my qual year, so if I gift that status does it just run for the remainder of this year, or for 1 1/2 years?

2.- If I gift that Gold status to a friend now, and in a few months make P1, can I then gift Platinum status to my partner? IE can the receivers be two different people?

Do my questions make sense?

mviy, thanks for the post - it shows me the most detailed info on P1 / partner nominations. And it clears up Q1. But as for Q2 I suspect I will have to call Qantas.

Yes they can be two different people, in fact it's better if they are otherwise you have wasted the PG nomination.
Note that PG does not need to be a family member at all.

I have just made a friend from work Gold. If in a couple of months QF baulks at giving my wife the WP, then I am truly in the poopoo :)

They won't, trust me on this.
There is no info on the website or from other P1s to suggest that this would happen.

BTW that's a meteoric rise in a couple of months from 2400 to 3600, respect :)

I can happily say that I gifted my mother SG in July last year, then my wife WP in October, with my renewal date in November.

Wanders off to the corner and quietly faints.... a mind boggling number of SCs even when considering premium cabin travel.

Mr Orange, in 2010 I "fought" with Qantas to give me Silver as I was 10 SC under the level and I just wanted to preselect my sh_tty Y seats. Before that never even knew that a concept of "status" existed. In 2011 I discovered AFF and actually had my eyes opened to the whole game. Took to it with a passion. And now I am in a work situation of FIFO BNE-BOG. And, thanks to what I learnt here (and some personal secrets) I tweak every single flight.

But it will not last :) Am not rich and much is self-funded. I think I will "retire" the status seeking part of my obsession later this year when I make P1. After that it will be penny pinching and focusing on a retirement with more $ than SC :)

Perhaps a referral thread for those volunteering to take up a gold for an AFF field, I mean friend?

May need to have strict suggested guidelines to even suggest that one might get picked. ;)

I have given my Gold away to friends every year for the past 3-4 years no issue.

re the Partner Plat at P1 - I did toy with creating my cat an account and gifting it to her but that is silly. My understanding is that the only stipulation on the plat is that the address needs to be the same (to somehow prove they are a domestic partner or spouse).

The partner plat is definitely different to the 2400 SG give away so can be different people - and as others have said - should be.

Thanks RichardMel - I have given away the gold - and hit P1 in August so will make SWMBO happy then.

It is so much easier getting real experience here than consulting and deciphering official websites. Thank you, and the rest, for allaying my fears :)
