Questions about transiting through Changi - 13 hour connection

I'm taking my wife and two teen boys trekking in Nepal in September from Sydney.

I booked through Aunt Betty. On the outwards journey we arrive SIN 450pm Friday 25 September QF81. Depart SIN 620AM Saturday 26 September MH602.

A couple of questions:

Will our bags be checked straight through from SYD to our destination, or will we pick them up in SIN?
Will we be expected to go through customs and exit the airport then re-enter the following morning, or stay at the airport overnight without going through customs?

For each option above, do you have particular recommendations of how best to manage the time? I've booked us all a room at the Village Hotel Katong for now but maybe there is somewhere right at the airport that caters to these long (albeit artificial) connecting itineraries. Hotel Katong is apparently only 15 mins from the airport so maybe this is good enough.

All other hints and tips welcome!

Cheers, Steve

If it’s all on one booking, your bags should be checked through - unless you need them and they might short check (ie collect on arrival).

A hotel on the metro would be handy. But an early departure would require a taxi back.

“Entering” Singapore immigration is easy with SmartGates (not sure if they work with kids???).

While you can stay airside for the entire time, but the hotels inside the departures halls can be prohibitively expensive.

Lots of accommodation options however which are close-ish to the airport. Taxis are fairly inexpensive, as are ride shares.

If bags are already checked through and you haven't previously been to Jewel, it'll be the ideal opportunity to take a short walk there from T1 Arrivals before leaving the airport
