Hey y'all!

Just wondering about the following;

A few "Express Path" Passes (Both Departure and Arrival) have come into my possession and they're "Qantas Branded".

My question's are:

  • Am I required to be flying Qantas to use them?
  • Are they considered useful?

I'm asking as I'll be flying Qantas (Economy) but my mother is flying Emirates (Economy).

Thanks in advance! :)

Outbound I find useful. Inbound not so much.

Don't have to be flying QF.

Agreed on both counts. On the usefulness, if you have an e-passport that can be better than using the express path card for the immigration lines. The card might still be handy though for cutting the worst of the queues at the back of the baggage hall to get out.

The quarantine queues don't seem as bad as they were when the express path came about - I have a bunch of inbound cards in the house somewhere - unused. I have no outbound.

I have a pile of inbound cards at home. Foolishly tried to use one coming into Melbourne for the first time from LAX a few months ago - not realising there is no express path. Took 1 hr of standing in line with bags, nothing to declare, rude airport staff... never flying into that international terminal again.

At MEL the other day I saw someone flying NZ trying to pass a QF express pass. The customs agent sent them to the back of the regular (and very long!) queue.

Outbound it's definitely tied to airline but how often it's enforced I don't know.

When using departure express cards, the person at immigration lane collecting them doesn't look at boarding pass, in my experience. So use whenever.

On arrival, I agree that SmartGate (e-passport) immigration is always faster than 'fast track' lane. After that, I find fast track customs preferable and quicker than the regular queue which can be very long. I don't recall any correlation between BP and express card at that point either.
