So Hubby and I and our two kids were going to QLD in May to visit his Parents.
I have two separate tickets - one Canberra to Bundaberg, the other Gold Coast to Canberra.
They are both Getaway Fares.

I can see that they don't allow name changes or allow me to cancel. But it does say that I can "change" the booking - I'm not quite sure what that means? Change the dates?

My issue is that at this stage my Husband has left the home, and we aren't really communicating very well. So I'm doubtful we will be taking this trip. Ideally I'd still like to go as my Kids want to see their Grandparents and I could take my Mother with me but they won't allow a name change.

I'm guessing my only option is to lose the money I paid on my Husbands fare and purchase one for my Mother if we decide to go that way.

Sorry to hear of your circumstances.

Unfortunately you are quite correct, there are no name changes permitted on getaway fares, and changing the flight indeed refers to simply changing the dates of the flight which triggers an AUD90 fee plus any fare difference.

You will have to pay for a new ticket for your Mum, (or use Velocity points if you have any, I guess).

The only thing you really can do with the ticket is divide the PNR so your husband no longer appears on the ticket which may make life easier if you are certain he will not be traveling with you when it comes to check in, etc.

Thanks for confirming.
I do have enough points to get my Mother a ticket but I know she will pay for her own.
I guess I just call up Virgin and ask them to split the booking, is this something that is going to cost me money?

It shouldn't, I'm sure I've done it in the past. It will issue a new booking reference for the other ticket.

Thatb is correct.

FYI Once split the bookings can not be rejoined.

forgive my ignorance as I haven't had this happen before. But what happens if I don't split it and he just doesn't show? Does it matter?
If I book for my Mother can I have her booking added to mine later?
