Question about should i pay to become gold!

One thing to keep in mind is that once you hit SG, you only require the 600 and 4~'s to retain it each year afterwards.

I'm going to vote no it's not worthwhile - purely because you'll become addicted and spend more money over the coming years than you otherwise would :)

If you can accept the new addiction - then yes it's totally worthwhile!

You know you want to, you're just looking for validation.
Just do it!

Is that actually a thing?
I had assumed that you are out of pocket for it if you upgraded on your own.
Ive been led to believe so until tax time. Legit travel expense for work. Someone else might be able to confirm?

Sadly we all "play the game" and you will always want more. This time it's $700 for gold, next time it's $800 for plat and the time after $2000 for P1.

Enjoy :)

Yep.
I've been thinking for the last month if i should do status runs to make gold. Im like 300 SC away but that doesn't stop me thinking about it and searching flight segments i could do over a weekend to get it.

Hey All,

Just letting you know i have decided to do the good old, SYD - BNS - CNS, return. all in all i will net 150 Status credits from $670, it will all be done in a day :)

You guys are right, i already thought about doing it and it being good value, i just needed the final kick in the pants to get there :p

I do have a question though, with the run that im doing, im assuming the plane that takes me to Cairns will be the same one returning? ie, there is no chance i could miss that plane.. so even if my original flight is delayed that would then mean my return flight is delayed (assuming they are the same plan) - has anyone done this run before?

cheers
Martin

If understand how your doing this its All on full Y tickets with aquire 50% status bonus?

If Full Y and your miss your flight they will put you on another one assuming its not the last of the day. So it is the last one then i have no idea what happens. Perhaps another route via Mel or something

Which flights are you on to/from CNS?

QF508 – Sydney to Brisbane – 8:05am to 8:35am (due to timezone changes)

55 min wait then QF782 – Brisbane to Cairns – 9:30am – 11:50am

50 min wait then QF649 – Cairns to Brisbane – 12:40pm – 2:50pm (this is the one im concerned about)

1hr 35mins wait then QF545 – Brisbane to Sydney – 4:25pm – 7pm(due to timezone changes)

Yes you are correct due to the Aquire promotion I will be getting 50% extra status credits, so all in all 100 (standard) + 50 (Aquire) I thought it was pretty good for $684

Hey Mattg - sorry i just added to thread without replying to you directly

No problem. It looks like the same aircraft has flown QF782 & turned around as QF649 back to BNE 5 times out of 7 over the past week. So I'd say it's likely you'll be on the same plane.

If for some reason your flight into Cairns is delayed and the return is operated on a different aircraft, you would probably be rebooked onto a direct flight to Sydney. The next CNS-BNE flight would not get you to Brisbane in time to make the last flight of the day to Sydney. If this does happen, you'll still be entitled to the full status credits based on what you have booked. You would just need to ask for an "original routing credit". So either way, you should be fine. :)
