I will be doing my first flight as WP on a Friday night leaving MEL domestic at 7:30pm. As Friday night is a busy time, I guess I don't have much chance of getting myself and my 2 guests seating in the J lounge?

One of the guests is a QANTAS Club member so the Y lounge is the one we are used to.

I'm not there too frequently of a Friday evening but it is pretty crowded between 4 and 7pm in my experience. You can always try - no harm in asking - but I reckon the regular club will have more space and you don't miss out on much (marginally better food and some drinks).

I'm more of a Sunday evening person at MEL J, but that can be equally as heaving. I've found the seats on the far left-hand side (near the workstations) are the last to fill. Good luck!

That's pretty much where I always sit. The strip of three tables / seats directly opposite the bar and as far back as possible are my favourites. If you want quiet that's the general zone (no natural light and staff keep their dirty dishes trolley there so it can be a bit hit and miss - but close to bar and no through traffic)!

That work station area is where we had to sit today. Lots of kids in the J lounge, wandering around but parents saving their seat. Plus lots of examples of couples spreading themselves over four seats. But the work station area and nearby seating was deserted but even that started to fill up.

That's regrettable but I think we've all experienced situations whereby other seats are full and one has no choice but to sit in a zone with a suboptimal seat:occupant ratio.

Of course some people are space hogs and should be turfed out, so there we go.
