Queenstown landing Video

Was posted here a couple of months ago (Ask the Pilot, I think) , but I enjoyed seeing it again. As I said at the time, there are some things a passenger should never see (descending into clouds while approaching a mountain!)

Wow, what an amazing video. And looked like a beautiful winters day in Queenstown. I've only had a chance at taking off from Queenstown, however the night before saw significant snowfall and airport closed for two days, we ended up taxiing it to Dunedin.

i think that's the demonstration of GE's new automated landing system or something?

Probably an RNP 0.3 approach - all QF 737-800s and i believe now JQ A320s can fly them. Basically an advanced curved path arrival using GPS.

Certainly one of the more spectacular airports around. Looked like a calm evening. Newk and I flew in a few weeks back through a storm and I was hanging out the window enjoying the bouncey ride through the canyon. About a kilometre out the pilot got an indication of windshear, aimed the nose straight up and hit the gas.

Still, it was a pleasant drive in from Christchurch, past Lake Takeapoo, and we arrived in time for a couple of beers.

That video is sublime. Thanks for posting.

Loved the video, and music track to match. First time I flew into Queenstown I had my usual aisle seat. Realized my stupid mistake once all the passengers in the windows seats started exclaiming at the scenery. As soon as I landed I went straight across to the scenic flights counter and chartered a helicopter. Landed in Virgin snow on a peak with the most stunning views. Worth very cent.

In a former life I used to live next door to Queenstown Airport and frequent the Wakatipu Aero Club - have had some interesting light plane flights around the area.
