Qu: Koru lounge guest and child access for velocity gold

Just want to confirm what I am reading is correct for Koru access in Sydney and then Queenstown when on VA flights.

On the VA site against ANZ lounge access it says VA gold is allowed 1 guest. Then under children policy it says all children under 12 in addition to guest.

So if I have my child u12, plus one adult guest, plus their child u12, all four should be granted access?
(same flight, different PNR).

Anyone done this without any hassles? I just don't want to have a heated discussion at the front door

I don't see any problem with that I have seen families with 2 parents 2 children come through with a single gold velocity.

There is absolutely no problem with this. As VA Gold I guested my wife and 3 kids into the Koru lounge at least 20 odd times before wifey hit gold/platinum. AirNZ really look after families in that respect.

I agree, no problems getting my 4 kids into the Koru Club.

I think I was gold when I guested my wife, child 1 (over 12) and child 2 (under 12) into the Koru. Of course if they refuse you, the chances are it will be more pleasant for you!

I agree, no problems getting my 4 kids into the Koru Club.

And I though you and Shrek only had Fergus, Farkle and Felicia........

One guest. Children under twelve are allowed over and above the guest entitlement.

VA lounges is one adult guest (over 12) and two children under 12. My experience is however, the 12 rule is not strictly applied and although it doesn't appear to make mention in the T&Cs about member guest entitlements to Koru, my experience also is that they apply the same rulings. However, I have status which is clearly described with Koru access whereas lounge members are not mentioned on the child policy page. I think that is just an accidental omission, but it may be wise to ring and check.

When you actually think about it, since a person must be a Velocity member to buy lounge access and to be a Velocity member, a person must be at least 18, the child age policy should be under 18 rather than 12 (IMHO).

From the VA terms and conditions:

7. d) Each Member and Velocity Gold Member may invite one Guest, and two children aged 2 – 12 years inclusive to accompany the Member to the lounge at no charge. and;

8. a) Reciprocal access to selected Air New Zealand Lounges in Australia and New Zealand is available to Members travelling on trans-Tasman flights (to or from New Zealand) on Virgin Australia, Virgin Australia (NZ), Virgin Australia (SE Asia) and Air New Zealand marketed and operated flights and within New Zealand on Air New Zealand flights.

PF, From the text mentioned above, that is correct for Gold and Platinum status members, but for some reason, paid lounge members are not mentioned. I believe you are correct, but I'm not actually sure as for the short time I was a lounge member only, I did not try Koru access (and it was years ago and many changes have since happened).

I assumed much the same, thinking to myself, this question is fairly basic......until I noticed lounge member rather than status and when I checked, I understood why this seemingly easy question was asked. The various pages mention lounge member briefly, but for lounge members travelling with kids OS (NZ is the only place with reciprocal lounge membership rights without status) it seems to be very unclear as to the members entitlement. I must admit to assuming it would be at least two kids under 12, but I'm not sure.

To be sure, you'd probably be best to ring them. Koru is not much of a lounge. In fact when I fly out of BNE Int on short haul, I prefer to sit in the terminal and watch the people parade than sit in the uninspiring Koru lounge. If I were your brother, I'd save the cash and spend it on the holiday.

You worded it well , I just wasn't paying full attention.
I agree with swanning_it that lounge membership doesn't really seem like great value for a once a year ski trip. Depending on the Airport he flies from there are a few options for lounge access. Koru club has paid day passes available and there is always the Amex Lounge at SYD which might be an option if he has an eligible card.

Don't know as we didn't get there in the end. Was quite simply blown away by how good the SYD Koru lounge is since the re-furb.
By most reports from folks I know it's ok but can get a bit busy at times.
