I was wondering why the Qantas Q Tags were discontinued?
I’ve always found them very handy and don’t have to worry about the kiosk and printed tags. I see they can make a pretty penny on EBay etc. I have a couple of different cases I travel with and need to remember to swap the tag depending on which one I use. What do others do?

When picking up some of the free tags being given away in the ADL J lounge, I asked what the plans were. The lounge attendant implied QF will be coming out with a replacement for the Q Tags, along the lines of Apple Air Tags. I did tell her that not having to print a bag tag is a huge benefit and she did say that the new solution wouldn't mean printing tags.

PErhaps this means you just throw a tracker into your packed bag? Who knows. Make of this what you will.

This one here is exactly the same as the giveaways at around Christmas Time,
Made in China white tag. Also the serial series no 00004015 is close to a couple
I collected.

Christmas Bonus for the seller.

The tags have been very handy, indeed. Perhaps the underlying tech is at the end of life and a business case to upgrade the system(s) to continue with the tags didn't stack up.

Hopefully the next version works as easily as the earlier. In fact, QF has an opportunity to simplify the customer experience even further: put a bag to the conveyor belt, show your BP QR code to the bag drop terminal, and tap 'Link the bag to this trip' - and be done with a single tap.

RFID in itself is going strong but I was thinking more of the system QF runs for the Qtags. They had a 15 year run which is a good time for a business system, even with upgrades along the way.

and ALL the new bag drop machines still support QTags… Most of those machines were installed after they discontinued issuing QTags…🤷‍♂️

So I assume you’ll still be able to use them for a while yet. Unlike the totem poles - they were cute while they lasted and served a purpose.
