Hi,

Longtime lurker but first time poster .... apologies if this has been asked before but I haven't found another thread that answers this.

I am flying MH J from Heathrow T4 to Sydney. Rather than use the MH lounge, I want to access the QR lounge (also in T4).

According to what I have read, OW Emerald and Sapphire are excluded from visiting the lounge unless travelling in J or F.

And the OW website says:
[h=2]Qatar Airways Premium Lounge[/h]Location details: Terminal 4, opposite gate 6
Opening hours: Daily: 05:00-20:30 (Nov-Mar)
Notes: This lounge is only available to oneworld customers traveling in First and Business Class cabins

So my question is: can I utilise the QR lounge whilst flying J on MH metal? Or is the wording not particularly clear, and the lounge is only open to J and F pax on QR metal?

Thanks.

Sadly, the exclusion still applies and you will not have access. See the fourth footnote here.

Thanks Danger - but I dont see how the exclusion applies.

The link that you provided says (I have excerpted for relevance):

oneworld lounge access for First Class or Business Class customers

  • Customers flying First or Business Class have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. First Class passengers may use a Business Class or frequent flyer lounge if a First Class lounge is not available.
  • First Class passengers may invite one guest to join them in the lounge. The guest must also be travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline.
  • The following exceptions apply: Guests are not permitted at Qatar Airways Al Safwa and Al Mourjan lounges at Hamad International Airport in Doha or Qatar Airways Premium Lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 4.

The exception says that QR don't allow a guest. So if I was travelling F and wanted to bring a guest (which I am not) then I couldnt do it. But i'm still not sure how that precludes me from accessing?

I believe that footnote applies to entry by OW status, not class of travel.
There's a sign at the entrance stating that it's available to OW J & F pax. (Actually says something like 'full fare paying' just to add to the confusion.)

Under the heading "oneworld lounge access for frequent flyers by tier status", go a bit further down to "The following exceptions apply". Under the fourth footnote it reads:

"4. Qatar Airways Al Safwa and Al Mourjan lounges at Hamad International Airport in Doha and Qatar Airways Premium Lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 4 are excluded."

I note you're asking as a J passenger, though, not as a oneworld Emerald or Sapphire. So a strict reading of the above footnote would in fact not exclude you. I would give it a shot at the QR lounge and see what they say. Point out that you're travelling J and the exclusion applies to those not flying J or F.

While in reality I think QR is trying to exclude everyone from the lounge except their own J and F passengers, that's not how the exclusion reads.

Bottom line: I've changed my original view and I think you should be fine.

Don't forget to report back.

I was typing as you posted but now I agree with your sentiments. It shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks Danger, Happy Trails & Opusman ... I'll definitely give it a go and report back.

However, i'd LOVE to hear from anyone who has attempted - either successfully or not :)

I used it with no problems last year on an MH F ticket (US Air redemption of course) though they weren't over-effusive in their welcome, pointing out that the MH lounge was available - very much like using the SQ lounge at SYD when flying TG.
Stayed for a while and then retired to the MH lounge which was also nice enough.
