Yesterday I flew DEL-DOH-CAI on QR, in the exact same seat (1K) both on 788. The first was in J and the second was in F.
First, I was curious on how the F and J service would differ, It turns out there was zero difference, no extra perks for the F flight and the menu was very similar (even some options were the same). So I guess it’s no different to US airlines selling domestic as F, except at least with this you do actually get points and SC for F.
The seat - I quite like for sitting. It was comfortable and had good controls to get the position just right. However…
The bed - terrible. Fortunately they were short flights but I did take a nap on the first and it was very uncomfortable. The space between the seat and table was very tight that when I slept on my side my thighs were hitting the table. Also no mattress topper. I would absolutely avoid on an overnight flight.
The food was very good on both flights, but no alcohol (champagne) PDB on either? I thought that was weird.
Service on the first flight wasn’t great, mainly because the FA assigned to me struggled with English (moreso pronunciation that vocabulary) and he couldn’t understand my Australian accent so I think he ended up avoiding me as much as possible. I get that this flight will be prioritising Hindi speakers which is fair enough. Service on the second flight was much better, the crew were mostly Asian and spoke perfect English.
No amenity kits on either flight which I guess is fair enough for the flight duration, but I thought the F flight might get one.
Boarding in DOH was painful, orderly queues with dedicated first class line - only to be let into the waiting area at the gate. No area reserved for first class. When it came time to board it was a free for all, first 50 or so pax were not first class despite them saying boarding is only for first class. Not a premium experience at all.
Overall, if this is representative of non-Qsuite QR then I won’t be rushing back. I’d give them another chance for Qsuites but the gamble it gets swapped out for something else is a concern.
