QFF WP flying J on Emirates BNE - CPT. Is there any tie up still with QF?

I was declined access to Emirates lounge tonight in PEK. I was told One World Emerald did not matter. The local rule is only Emirates flyers could have lounge access. So much for One World status.

And QFF status doesn't matter either unless you are actually flying on an EK flight.

EK in PEK seems not to know of any QF-EK agreements when flying on a QF flight.

ok, thanks for replies. I'm a little confused reading the above.

for BNE - DXB - JNB I am on an Emirates ticket and in Business Class all the way. I would have thought that gets me into the more fancy lounge Dubai when I arrive.

it's the same on the way back from JNB - DXB - BNE ... Emirates ticket, Business Class all the way. Again, I'd have thought I can get into the fancier lounge in DXB.

If I recall correctly, the 'fancier' lounge is upstairs from the lounge I got into when I went through last time and was only Gold QFF (I am WP QFF now).

By "fancier lounge" you clearly mean the First Class lounge, which is indeed located on the floor above the Business Class lounge in Dubai Conccourse A (note if your flight departs from another concourse, such as C or D there are other lounges there).

The only quibble is regarding EK flights to South Africa, though the moe I look into this it seems that this may not pertain to the DXB lounge, but is related to QF elites trying to access the EK lounge in SYD when flying on QF flights to the US and JNB, which are not part of the QF/EK agreement.

If someone can find any T&C that indicates flights from DXB-South Africa are excluded for QF elites then feel free to post it for all our info :) Otherwise I can't find anything to verify the previous post regarding this.

I think in DXB in both legs you should be given entry to the DXB First lounge (and it should state as such on your boarding pass)

In CPT it seems EK has a reasonably new lounge to enjoy too:

yeah thanks, that's exactly what i meant. I will try and gain entry there for sure. lay over is about 5 hrs. I can't imagine I would be on a J class ticket with them and not be able to access their main premium lounge.

Flight to JNB is on an EK a380, so it should all be the same terminal I imagine, as I'm assuming the A380s all operate from the same concourse.

All EK flights depart from Terminal 3. Not all EK A380 flights depart from Concourse A (which is where your "fancier lounge" is located). However, even if your flight departs Concourse C (which you are best accessing by catching the train to Concourse B and walking completely through Concourse B to Concourse C) a 5 hrs layover would allow you access to Lounges in Concourse A - even if you were to arrive in Concourse B. My last flight through DXB - which was an A380 flight to BHX - departed from Concourse C.

There are Business and First Class Lounges located in both Concourse B and Concourse C however - per my post at #7 - you are not officially allowed access into the First Class Lounges on your outbound courtesy of your destination being CPT however will be on the return however dttexitsign states (at #9) that they have been granted access contrary to the stated rules as WP travelling to CPT. Just be prepared for refusal if you do try your luck at the First Class Lounge.

ok, just incase people are interested, I had 'Emirates First Class Lounge' printed on the boarding pass for DXB - JNB I was issued when I checked in for the flights in BNE.

Got off in DXB in Concourse A (maybe gate A1 or A2), walked down the escalator, through security, back upstairs to the 'First Class Lounge' which is on floor 3. There is a Business Lounge above this floor where the First Class Lounge is located. So I'm not sure if the Business Lounge is the 'better' one or the First Class Lounge that I'm in is the better one ... either way, I got a shower and some decent food, so no complaints.

Flight DXB - JNB leaves from A10 here on this concourse.

Cheers

A QF elite flying QF should have access to any EK lounge in Asia, according to the QF-EK partnership rules. I've done this in several ports with no issues.

However, multiple people have reported that the EK lounge in PEK simply refuses to honour the agreement on the basis that their system does a "computer says no" when you hit the lounge entry desk. My theory is that, as PEK was not a QF port at the time the partnership was negotiated, PEK was never added in the back end of the EK system - and that when QF did start flying to PEK, no-one thought to add it.

Any refusals should be reported to QFF, as they need to tell EK to add PEK to the lounge entry system.

I did that.

Qantas just gave a lame reply. Basically saying they had no idea why I was refused. They didn't seem too keen on doing anything more.

That's an interesting development and the certainty is most welcome if EK are consistent with this for non-agreement destinations.

Note: there is no consistency from which concourse various flights may depart (though the QF gates did seem to be fairly fixed for the period that they flew through DXB). I've tracked various flight departures to see whether there's any sort of predictability - even based on the day of the week - and failed to see it. Having said that, I would expect EK's flagship flights to be targeted to depart from Concourse A due to the guaranteed access from Lounge to aerobridge. The Concourse A Business Lounge can get very crowded during peak times however the Concourse B Business Lounge is fabled for its M&C Champagne Bar (supposedly better tipples than the F Lounges) ... each to their own to decide what makes it a "better" lounge.

OP, you make the comment that if you didn’t have status but was flying on a J ticket, you’d expect access to the F lounge in DXB. I’m not quite sure that it works that way.

Aware of the status, but he makes a comment that he would have thought that J class ticket gets access to the higher lounge. I’m clarifying if the OP had no status they wouldn’t be entitled to F lounge access based on class of service alone.

Well I am glad you got in, and as I suspected the invite was printed on your BP which makes it absolutely clear regarding your entitlements - which I like about EK.

Re your above comment though - I am not sure if this a general statement, or related to you as a QF Platinum - you only HAVE access to the First lounge in DXB due to your QF Platinum status - the J class ticket is not enough for anything other than the Business Class lounge.
