Hi all,
I've got a question about the QFF statuses.
Am I right in saying that you've got 12 months from when you join (in my case it's July 11th) to get enough status points to increase to the next status, which you'll then keep for the following 12 months? During the second 12 month period, you'll need to get enough points to maintain the levels, or you'll drop back. Is this right?
So for me, I've got until July 11th this year to get 300 points, and if I do, I'll get silver status between July 11th 2014-July 11th 2015? Correct?

Thanks.

Hi, you've got until the end of your membership year to attain status and once earned you retain it until the end of your next membership year.

E.g. Join March 2014, get 300 SCs by July 2014 you will have Silver level until March 2016.

Do note that your membership year expires at the end of the month you joined, not during the month.

You have until the end of the month, not a particular day in the middle.

I would advise you to check out your "Summary" tab when logged into your account for exact dates, but would imagine your year ends in June (the last day of June) and starts in July.

Oh so you'll upgrade as soon as you've got enough status points? Great because I should pick up silver by the end of the year (thanks to some impulsive holiday bookings... :-) )

Yes. Think of it as a bonus. But with the bonus comes a drawback (to some) that any SC earned after that continue to count for the current year (towards the next level in that case, which would be Gold) until your year ends, and then your tally resets to 0 and you have a year of Silver (or Gold++ if you got higher) and you start working on re-qualifying.

Welcome to the slippery slope that is elite status. It's addictive, can be rewarding and is nearly always frustrating.

Once you've had your first taste of shiny wallet candy, you always want the prettier plastic (and the associated perks that go with it of course!) ;)

HI PaulST,

You've got some of the basics, but ....

1. Your Membership Year will finish on the last day of the month, rather than the exact date on which you joined up.

2. Terminology: NOT Status Points, but Status Credits.

3. In order to RETAIN a Status Level does not require as many SCs as it does to qualify in the first place: (your Silver Example) 300 to qualify; 250 to retain. You also need 4 qualifying flights during the year.

4. One last thing: if you attain status PRIOR to the end of your Membership Year, you have that status for the remainder of your qualifying year AND the following year (during which you would work to retain).

Hope this helps.

Regards,

BD

Absolutely! Loyalty programs are always very clever. I've already spent a bit of money booking flights with Qantas that were more expensive than its competitors, although I'll justify it (to myself) by saying I'm patriotic or something about their safety record... :)

Thanks all.
