Hi everyone,

Finally, after a lot of regular flying, an SC run, combined with the 2x SC offer, i've managed to finally work my way to Gold (700SC's in less than 2 months :p)

This also means i finally now get a much coveted QP membership. I have a quick question about this.
Do you have to be flying to access the QP? "Officially" according to the QP T&C's, you do. However, i've read a bit of talk here implying that you don't in fact. Do they check your boarding pass?
If someone could offer their advice here that would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Josh

Oh another question as well.
In regards to internet access, i am aware you can use the Telstra Hotspot wireless (For a fee), or use the PC's in the business centre for nuttin, however, is there the facility to connect your laptop directly to ethernet to gain access (without cost) ??? (BNE QP in particular)

Thanks,

Josh

Congrats on the SG Josh

I am not SG but I am a QP member and IME they do check boarding passes. I wouldn't think you would have much hope of accessing QP unless you are flying (and flying QF/OW). But someone else may have different experiences

It's only possible to access the QP as a WP, not SG, without flying.

I have been asked for a boarding pass, this is put through the reader, even when I have flashed the QF Gold card.

Only ever seen this in international QP's

Outside of unplugging the PC and plugging your laptop in, I never found a way!

In some of the domestic QP's I have seen people flash their gold card on entry, only for the lounge dragons to ask for the card to check if they have a flight booking for that day.

Congratulations on making Gold status. The only way to get internet access from your own PC in most Qantas Clubs (and this includes Brisbane) is:
  • Unplug the Qantas Club PC and use their ethernet port
  • Dial-up using one of the many phone connections around the lounge
  • Wireless for a fee

Please remember to pkug it back in when you leave though ;)

Congrats on the SG - although I would have to say "finally achieving QF SG" after two months of travel is an interesting choice of phrase...

Congrats Josh!

I find the sydney domestic qantas lounge the most relaxed in gaining entry - i have never shown or been asked to show my boarding pass and I have even entered on days that I have not been flying - just a flash of the card and they send you through. I have also encountered on two separate occasions that there has been no one at the front desk!

Entering PER domestic QP last month I was asked for BP. The same happened in AKL and WLG domestic QPs.

I have a few visits in QPs next week so will be interesting to observe the protocol used.

Are you able to access QP after a flight when you get to your destination? Or do you need to still be flying on to somewhere else that day?

In Australia, only if you have an onward flight that day or you are a QF Platinum.

Overseas you can access arrivals lounges at your destination. Or you can access departure lounge if you have an onward flight that day.

Oh - I should have qualified that statement by saying that i've been a PS for the last couple of years. Even though it only took me two month to get the required points, i am 'finally' a SG!

Notably the new ADL QP appears to have lots of network ports around the lounge (unsure though if they are activated for general internet usage)

I think oz_mark was probably referring to the swiping of the BP, not the asking to see it. I also only recall the swiping happening in international QPs. (Of course that doesn't mean it doesn't also happen at some domestics - unlike Lucky Starr, I haven't been everywhere, man.)

The OP needs to note, though, that usually arrivals lounges (e.g. BA and AA at LHR) are accessed due to class of service alone - memberships and status don't cut it.

Yup, and limited to certain airports only. Arrivals lounges are separate to the regular departure lounge (which normally is not able to be used on arrival).

Hmm, bit of a shortcoming that. Would be nice to be able to fly in to somewhere and have a place to have a shower and get changed before leaving the airport.
Or is that a feature you need proper Club membership for?

As Alan in CBR points out, you need to be flying in the right cabin on the right airline (in general some exceptions apply) in order to use an arrivals lounge.
