Hi all,
New to this forum so looking for some help.

I want to fly premium economy in August 2015 SYD-LAX-SYD and want to use my Qantas Frequent Flyer points (I have about 600,000 to use).
There will be 2 adult and 2 kids.

When I look ahead as far as Qantas will take bookings to see the price (ie, I'm just choosing June dates to get an indication of taxes, fees etc) it seems to only let me choose PE seats if there's only 2 people. With 4 people there are no direct flights available Sydney to LA.

Does that mean they only allocate 2 PE classic award seats per flight?
Any suggestions on how the points could be used better? The flights seem to be approx $1900 return. Which seems expensive to me.

Using frequent flyers I still have to pay $800 in taxes per ticket.

Thanks,
Libby

Hi all,

Does that mean they only allocate 2 PE classic award seats per flight? Award seats are limited. 2 available sounds about right. 4 on any higher class may be difficult to find on such a high demand route.

Any suggestions on how the points could be used better? The flights seem to be approx $1900 return. Which seems expensive to me.

Using frequent flyers I still have to pay $800 in taxes per ticket.....Yes it is expensive. Sometimes it is a better use of points to purchase paid tickets and use your points for an upgrade, though you will still run into the issue of finding 4 upgrades.

You do not mention if you have any status. Platinum and above can request award seats be released, but there is no guarantee.

Welcome, good luck, keep reading here and you will get much good advice
.:)

You might also try looking for partner awards via Hong Kong or Japan....others know more than I on this!
