Cannot see why 56000 (Y) points LAX-PER via SYD or Bris ( no stopover) but 64000 points if via MELB?

Its an interesting one . I assume you are talking points redemption in Y . I got back 56K LAX-PER via SYD or BNE & 64K via MEL

Ok , i have just had another look at it

LAX-BNE-PER is 9410 kms which is Zone 9 / 56000 points for Y redemption
LAX-SYD-PER is 9532 kms which is Zone 9 / 56000 points for Y redemption
LAX-MEL-PER is 9605 kms which is Zone 10 / 64000 points for Y redemption

Zone 10 kicks in at 9601kms + , hence the higher points redemption via MEL

Yes Zone 10 LAX-PER via MELB (64000)
Also MIAMI-PER via DFW and MELB is also Zone 10 (64000). So across USA is a freebie really.

Yes those zone kms make a difference.
It can get trickier when you want to go in a higher class so often you have to split the flights from Perth so you end up with a higher points cost if you want to go Y from Perth and J for the long haul.
