QFF Family Transfer Question

I'm looking to book flights fairly soon to the US using QFF points but I'm just under 4000 points short. My dad is also a QFF member and is happy to give me the points but his balance is only 4500 which is under the 5000 point minimum required for transfer.

My question: can I transfer 5000 points to him and then transfer 9000 points (5000 + 4000 of his) back to me? I did speak to someone at Qantas who said that was ok but she didn't sound 100% confident, and I don't want to lose any of my points!

I can purchase top up points if I have to but I thought I would give this a try first.

Not a problem. The transfers happen just about immediately.

The only issue is that neither of you will be able to do another "family transfer" for 12 months to the day.
