QF94 tonight (3 Nov): J, Y+, or wHY???

So I am at HNL getting on AA to LAX, then connecting QF94 to MEL (which is another story), tonight Tuesday 3 Nov. The seating arrangement for my flight to MEL is totally messed up. I am on an O class fare, and I managed to pre-allocate 39A, which is in the premium economy cabin.

At HNL, the AA lady first gave me 68A (what the…), then she said ‘ooops, there seems to be an issue’. The machine then spitted out 29D (which gave me a 5-second yayy moment). Then I did not know what happened, but I got reverted back to 68A (WHAT THE!!!).

So, AA got on the phone with QF at LAX, who then informed us that I got standby for an upgrade to J. The flight is absolutely full (I did checked on SC, ad the QF lady also confirmed).

Has this happened to you before? Do you have any idea why the machine gave me 29D then knocked me back? Do you think I might have a good chance for a skybed tonight? I really really don’t want to be stuck in 68A (argh).

The flight tonight (Tuesday night) is oversold in economy.

If I were you I would recheck at the Qantas Club in Terminal 4 before going over to TBIT.

Terminal 4 AA/Qclub lounge seems to have more actual Qantas staff than oneworld club at TBIT.

Let us know what boarding pass you end up with.

Thanks MelUser, I got a premium economy seat . The people in my section (first 2 rows, just after the J cabin) definitely got Y+ service, with proper Y+ meals and menus etc. I was also given a pair of PJ and the amenity kit.

Did you notice if 29 and 30 (the last 2 rows of what was business) was actually premium ecomomy?

I'm guessing that you were in seated in row 34 or 35.

Pemium economy at the moment on 93/93 and 107/108 seems to be 29,30 (old bus seats) and 34 and 35 (1st 2 rows of old premium).

I spoke to a flight attendant last month on 108 back from US and she said that some pax seated in 34 and 35 get quite upseat when they see the pax in 29 and 30 with skybeds so they have been giving more goodies (eg PJs) to the pax in 34 and 35 to try to redress the imbalance.

Definitely agree with this - the T4 Qantas counter is brilliant with sorting out issues and looking after QFFers. Always worth a stopover before TBIT, if you have any questions about your seat.

Oh I was the only one in whY+ (that I know of) who got the PJs and the kit.... maybe because of the rapport with the CS supervisor and another attendant ... I don't know.... But it was a very nice gesture indeed.

I was in Row 35, and I don't know if 29 and 30 are business or premium. But I think the premium service for the passengers in my rows was a result of formal upgrades (at least it says so on my QF statement), rather than pure Y service.

Yeah it's always like that - especially with several LAX-Australia flights leaving all around the same time. A few weeks ago I really struggled to get a seat.

..and when I asked about showers, I was told it was a 30min wait, which if my plane left on time, would have been too long to wait, so I didn't risk it. I should have known though, I was on QF108, so of course it was going to be significantly delayed (even though I ARRIVED on the same QF108 from JFK!)

It's funny how you get the buzzers. It's almost like you're waiting for a meal to be cooked and you pick it up, except you get given a towel and told which bathroom to use
