QF9 flies out of Melbourne to heathrow at 3.30pm, QF29 goes after 10.00pm. Both times have pros and cons. My question is - which flight is less likely to fill up? Is there one of the two that is usually busier than the other?

Isn't it also about whether or not you want to be on the A380. QF9 has A380 certain days.

If you are angling to get a points upgrade then anything is possible but to increase chances pick Tuesday through Thursday and a non-A380 service.

Seatcounter/Expertflyer can guide you about availaiblity.

Actually I hadn't even thought about the A380. I'd be happy just to have a spare seat between us.

It may depend on day of travel, but anecdotally, QF29 does not seem as full as QF9. To the point where it was reduced to 5xweekly on HKG-LHR, not sure if it has be reinstated to daily or still operating at the reduced frequency. Going all the way to London I actually preferred QF29 to 9, due to the later arrival time leaving less hours before hitting the sack!
