G'day folks, hoping someone can advise re travelling with oversized baggage on the MEL/PER leg of QF9

Assuming this is possible..
a) Can the First check in at MEL handle oversized luggage or will I need to drop off separately in T2 after check in?
b) Where do you collect the bag once you land in Perth? I don't recall seeing signs for oversized luggage in the special bag collection area

Cheers

A) I don’t believe the F checkin is open any more for QF9. I would just arrive at checkin with the item and they will direct you from there if unable to manage directly.

B) As you have to pass customs/immigration on arrival (even with the D sticker), luggage collection for QF9 is inside this point, so will be with other luggage arrivals from QF9. Make sue you retain your BP (reports of daily dramas of domestic pax on international flights with lost BPs and making processing more difficult).

Also somewhat obviously you will require photo ID to travel (always required but not routinely checked on domestic ops, it will be required for both outbound and inbound immigration). Note also cutoffs are international times not domestic checkin times. I’m sure you’re already aware of this.

Thanks docjames

Can now confirm there were no issues at all. For reference I was able to check my oversized bag at First check-in but had to manually drop it off at the oversized baggage counter next to McDonalds (across the other side of the terminal).

The oversized bag is also collected in the same special baggage claim area for QF9 in the Perth domestic terminal on arrival.

Cheers!

Eljefe, what did the ABF people do with the orange stickered BP at PER?
Do they just view it at MEL outgoing immi and then view it in PER incoming immi, and you surrender it just like you would with an IPC (incoming pax card)?
I know they don't stamp anything anymore, and orange BP and photo id or passports cannot be used via/through the Smartgate system, if solely using QF9 MEL - PER only or vv.
I have a plan, its still down the track so to speak, but want to try that PER - MEL on the 787, and like to do some mental planning now.

They direct you to a different line where an officer glances at it and waves you through.

Once you land in Perth, you're split into London/Perth passengers.
For Perth only, the process is:
1) clear immigration with your BP & ID
2) collect your bags
3) surrender BP just before you exit terminal
