Our points UG on QF9 Thurs night from Y+ to J just came through, and at over 48hours before the flight!! Bounce, bounce, bounce!

I've booked chauffeur drive for our domestic departure.

Should I bother with chauffeur drive on arrival at LHR (12:30pm ish arrival with the re-timed flights)? Or just do the Tube/HEX?? Given the time, I'm not sure arrival chauffeur drive will be more efficient than the trains. We are travelling to near Angel/Islington in London.

Also, we will be three pax (2 adults, 1 child), with three suitcases + hand luggage each. Does anyone in BNE know if that will fit in the typical cars? I guess we can get a second car if required ...

Thanks heaps!

given that you have a child and a lot of luggage I wouldn't even think twice - take the car. It might be slower but you are sitting in comfort not lugging stuff around ....

I'm massive fan of the HEX, so much so that I never take the car option after a couple of very slow journeys. I'm usually travelling light and alone though but if I had kids, hubs and bags in tow I'd definitely take a slow car any day :)

Interesting. I have never actually taken HEX because I always find myself staying somewhere along the Piccadilly Line. So it is either car or the tube for me. How easy is it to connect once out the other end? Are there cabs? The biggest nightmare would be to have to connect through a few tube stops to get to my room.

Dead easy to get a cab at Paddington if you need one. I usually stay at The Trafalgar and catch a cab to and from Paddington.
I don't do the tube to or from my hotel when arriving or departing LHR. I tried the Tube once and think I was allergic or something

We've actually swapped to the tube from HEX - we stay in an apartment in Mayfair and find getting the tube to Green Park and then a 5 minute walk to the apartment is actually slightly quicker than the Hex and then tube. I don't mind the tube - we've usually been to the arrivals lounge had a shower and a slow breakfast and the tube isn't a problem. We also travel with one small suitcase each and no hand luggage.

I'm not sure the options have been clear ... but I'd take the car :D

I haven't stayed in London for a while, the times I have I was staying out near St. John's Wood, so I've ended up on the Underground.
Recently, I've only been connecting between T3 and T5 and prefer to go landside and use the HEX to change terminals. There always seems to be a dozen or so drivers waiting to pick people up near the Chauffeur Drive desk in T3.

So, do I have it right, some people are kind of suggesting thatwe should take the car??? ;)

As long as we get to out hotel in time to make our appointment with the Fat man in the red suit in Knightsbridge at 5:30pm ... :)

With respect I think you need to read the answers more carefully. ;) :p

We booked the car. I hadn't consider recommendations I'd seen for HEX/Tube over car were for solo travellers, vs a family. Rather tickled, really, and the pickup tomorrow at home has already been confirmed.

I'm also tickled about the upgrade (of course!). We've had custom J PJs made for Little Miss, thanks to her grandmother, and she'll now be wearing them in J, and not look like a precocious wee snot in Y+. :p
