Hi guys,

As per the thread title, does anyone know the reason for this ?
I would have thought this flight would be a guaranteed goer for a 332 given most pax on this flight would want to sleep ?

Thanks

Lack of pax.
Certainly wouldn't want to be paying for J

Even though the other flights PER-MEL seem to be operated by the 332 ?
I just found it interesting (and annoying) that this particular flight was singled out.

Nah not paying either - using points.

Are you looking at a date in particular, but have based your statement on a sample size of one day? I have had a quick look and have found that the 332 certainly appears to operate QF648 in August as per normal with a small number of 738s thrown in.

It is nothing new that a 738 will operate the Red-eyes on days of lower demand. A quick look of flights in August shows the 332 in there

Noting that SYD-AKL is soon to be serviced by twice daily A330s (albeit to pick up from EK) it wouldn't surprise me to see more A330s deployed away from the PER routes. I'd have thought there's enough demand for the BNE-MEL and certainly BNE-SYD routes for some A330s. Just a guess on my part though.

Given the quality of VAs trans-continental offering (which is superior in my opinion) I wouldn't mind more QF A330s on other routes. I'll continue flying VA to/from PER.

Which day of the week are you looking at? Is it a Saturday?

It's not uncommon for an A330 trans-con flight to be serviced by a 737 on the weekend due to lower demand.

Have found this as well, plays a major part in planning which day of the week I fly. Typically find that the Sun-Thurs departure red eye PER>MEL/SYDs are the 330 though I do have an upcoming Fri departure currently on a 330

VA have plenty of 737 services trans-con, and probably more when they deploy the A330 to Hong Kong. You'll be needing to pay attention when booking either airline....

Well aware of that - was more a comment that I'd like more A330s on other routes. I don't do too many PER flights. But my next couple are on QF and hoping the A330s stick for these though!
