So I'm booked on QF61 on the 14th of May this year Brisbane to Haneda, returning on QF62 on the 22nd. Yesterday some mates were attempting to get on the same flight, yet qantas search results are not showing any direct flights from Brisbane to Haneda?

I can still see my flight in my bookings, I can see my seats, yet I can't search for these flights?

Is this the beginning of a cancellation? :/

Unfortunately, yes.

Basically what happens from here is that Qantas will wait a few more weeks before officially cancelling the flight so they can keep your money for longer. You'll just have to wait in the meantime for them to cancel, or if you still plan to travel, you could change your flight to something via Sydney.

Cheers, the joys of this Covid world!

yeah showing all 0's which is a good indication.

Looks like pax will probably be routed via SYD onto the QF25 I would guess.

Pre-Covid they did the same.
Rescheduled QF64 from Daily to 5 days a few years back. Didn't bother to tell the pax until 3 weeks before.
Luckily I had a CheckMyTrip alert setup so got advanced notice and was able to re-organise a later (QF reward) flight for 4 pax, extend the accomm, re-book transfers, re-book award connections from Durban to JNB etc, at my expense of course. Not sure how that would have gone had I waited for QF notification given it was peak travel period in SA.

@rynorex it may be beneficial to look at flight times that suit you and plan an alternative routing, e.g. BNE-SYD-HND at times that suit you. Also, your return from HND to BNE.

Then contact Qantas and mention that your flights appear to be cancelled and you would like to plan ahead and have some suggested flights that meet your needs noting the original flights are no longer available.

Being proactive will mean you get the best options.

My only comment is that if Qantas hasn't yet officially cancelled the BNE-HND flight yet, the call centre folks will see it as operating and therefore will consider a re-routing via SYD as a "voluntary" change. This could mean a fare difference is charged, if applicable.

By waiting for Qantas to properly cancel the flight, you then become entitled to a refund (if desired) or re-routing at no charge.

Similar situation, had QF23/24 booked for a Saturday departure and Saturday return in April. Noticed a couple of weeks ago that they had stopped selling tickets for these flights. Called up and asked if this meant it was going to be cancelled. Operator told me no, they have just "stopped selling temporarily and will appear in the system next week". So similar to what Matt has just said, they can't see it until it happens. The lady even said she was checking with a manager.

Yesterday got the email saying both flights have now been changed to Sundays. Very annoying when people have to pre-book hotels and tests and all that Covid related fun stuff. And of course prices have all gone up since booking!

Agreed.

At the moment I'm only booking flights on routes/airlines that are currently running, and only on days of the week that are currently operating, to minimise the possibility of future cancellations.

A lot of the flights, to Japan now put you through MEL, or through SYD.
MEL arr into HND at 20.30 or so, and SYD into HDN at 05.55.
You probably will get a message they will/have put you onto the SYD 20.45 dep.
Edit: did a dummy booking, was going to try it, but with the current covid situation, I thought maybe leave it to 2023, but was looking at 20 Dec this year, BNE - HND, coming back 25 Dec, but its now a QFd flight from BNE - SYD, and then QFd SYD - BNE.
Wanted to try the QFi BNE J lounge again, but no go by the looks of it.
Probably cheaper for them to do it this way, ie, consolidate all BNE - HND flights to go via SYD/MEL.
