Someone on another forum has noted that QF30 LHR-HKG-MEL schedule has changed from a lunchtime departure to a late evening departure, just after QF10 LHR-SIN-MEL. (starts next March/April)

Any reason why they'd do this? From what I can see, the MEL-HKG-LHR isn't changing schedule. I've always preferred the timing of this route (in both directions) over the SIN flights but now it looks like i have no lunchtime option to depart from London and get into MEL the next evening - any alternative suggestions?

Fly a different airline. :(

I am not sure about anyone else but one overnight flight is certainly better than 2 overnight flights.

So you leave London at 10:00pm after almost wasting the day, and you arrive back in Australia in the morning and you try so hard not to fall asleep.

I much prefer a late evening departure ex-LHR. I didn't really like the lunchtime QF30 departure ex-LHR as it necessiated an OMG o'clock wake up call if connecting from the Continent. I remember stumbling back from the club to my hotel room at 4am to prepare for a 6am ex-PRG departure. :shock:Unfortunately QF30 was often the easier flight to get an F redemption with. However I do prefer the HKG transit.

If really wanting a daytime departure, there's always QF32 via SYD.

New QF30 schedule WEF 27MAR.

I always take this flight to HKG because of its timing

You can check out of your hotel at a reasonable time in the morning and head straight to Heathrow instead of checking out early getting bags stored and then waiting around all day for a late evening departure.

Looks like I will be taking CX252 dep 12:35 from March

hmmm, just noticed this change when I tried to book HKG-MEL for next Friday. It was the old daytime flight last time I flew the route on 12Mar11, but not any more. I liked that the old schedule was one of the few daytime flights back to home from either SIN or HKG. I used to take the daytime QF30 from HKG on my way back from MNL - that's not going to work any more :(. - more overnight flights to AU for me now...

Take the CX flight instead, same timing, I did this week, maybe better than QF, my loyalty is slowly shifting to Cathay.
