Hey team,

Looking at SYD - HNL around 30/7 using QF Point, Y opened up today, but J still unavailable.

Can someone check loadings and perhaps comment on whether QF3 J opens up closer to travel date or if just hardly any seats full stop.

Cant find any seats at all!!! Ever!!!

Thanks

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but J seats are almost impossible to get on this route. I'd be looking at other options (e.g. booking Y and requesting an upgrade, or choosing a different route/destination).

It is possible to get them - I have on several occasions - but you need to ring the Platinum line and request a seat be released.

Not sure how many seats the OP is after - 1 might well be doable, but 2 (or more), not so much.

Bear in mind that in moving to the refurbed A330s, the seat count in J has fallen from 36 to 28, and this is also a route where QF does a fair bit of corporate business.

I was thinking exactly that Matt. So that being said, how easy is J Upgrade from Y Classic Award and what are chances for 2 seats through a QF Silver

Well, your chances as a Silver member will be better than Bronze... but it's still a tough ask. There are only 28 J seats, and the J cabin does tend to be pretty full on this route. Worth a try though, just make sure you purchase upgradeable fares.

Your profile says that you have Platinum status. As JohnPhelan says, you could also try requesting a Platinum seat release if this is the case.

Either way, I've just had a look at availability around your dates and I would suggest that you aim for QF3 on either 31/7 or 2/8 as these flights have the most unsold seats left in J.

I agree with the others here.

A call to see if they will release any award seats looks to be your best option.

I've heard that before, but I'm intirigued as to who would fly to HNL in a corporate sense. Is it for conferences?

Partly, but also a large amount of government/defence travel.

All my Defence(Navy) friends have to fly in Y these days....

July 30 is a Sunday so it's likely to be a popular date for holiday travellers who depart on weekends so there may be more people requesting upgrades then.

You'd have more chance of upgrading from a revenue fare eg a Saver fare than a Classic Award as the latter will have a lower priority. Also the priority for the upgrade will be based on the highest frequent flyer tier of the passenger in the booking not the tier of the person requesting the upgrade unless the requesting party is P1. If a WP is requesting for a pax who is PS then the upgrade will be processed based on the pax being PS.

Hey guys, have changed dates. Have booked 30/8 and coming back 13/9 QF3/4.

Could someone check loading on these dates for me please :)

With 2 seats in the I bucket for the return, you may stand a chance of getting them released as U with a call to the Plat line.

As a platinum my upgrade request was declined for QF3 on Saturday 1st April (only 1 sale seat available in J, about 2/3 full in Y) so I agree with others that your chances of award seats or upgrades are slim.

There needs to be a seat/s in "I" class for QF to consider a J award seat release. No I class seats, no chance, unfortunately.

Silly question, what is the loadings supplied telling us. I don't know how to interpret?

It shows how many seats in each fare bucket the airline is willing to sell. The buckets aren't coughulative so J9 C 8 I2 will show that 9 seats is the minimum amount available in that J cabin for example.

If the OP is looming for upgrade chances, it's way too early to be looking at loadings.
