I am looking to book MEL-BKK return in Y class using classic points. I can fly via SYD if required. The proposed dates are 1 Sept (out) and 1 Oct (return), but are very flexible and can be pushed out by a month if required.

While I can find QF23 to BKK, I cannot find the return leg QF24. There are lots of Jetstar flights, but these are unsuitable because I am taking my bike. The bike plus panniers weigh about 25kg, which meets Qantas's baggage policy and can be taken without additional cost.

Am I just holding my mouth wrong, or is it a bit too early for QF24 to show in classic award flights?

All suggestions and feedback greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Would the school holiday period have anything to do with the lack of availability?

SYD-BKK and vv can be a very difficult route to get classic awards.

In fact I have recently noticed the revenue airfares are ridiculous as well. There used to be about 8-10 bands of periods in the year where price changed to cover Christmas, Easter and school holidays. There are now 22 separate bands. Tried booking SYD-BKK to depart 26 September and return 06 October which is during the sales period and airfare was ridiculous.

You can try going BKK-HKG-SYD on EK/QF 11 October for 35,000 QFF points. A few other options as well. Look for availabilty HKG-SYD/MEL and then use multi-city with the BKK-HKG connection.

Thank you for your replies. As suggested, school hols extend into the second week of Oct. As a result, Qantas may prefer to sell any available seats, rather than make them available as award seats.
I tried pushing the flight date out by 2 weeks and also 4 weeks, but QF24 has disappeared off the radar. However, as suggested there are flights via Hong Kong which require additional points and add a minimum of 4 hrs to the flight (I'm rather tempted to forget about Qantas, and simply book and pay for a direct MEL-BKK flight with Thai during a sale period).

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

There are 2 Y on 1/11 if that is not too far out on QF 24

Or on 6/10 2 awards CX to HKG then QF to MEL.Seems to be a few dates open searching multi city BKK-HKG-MEL.
