The article has a picture of the first 747 at OOL in 1981...
That's an impressive zoom on the camera in the 7 news helicopter.
The boarding process at Ool hasn't changed much since 1981...lucky it wasn't raining.
A major extension project is under way. This includes a 3 storey International Terminal, additional parking bays for wide bodied aircraft and 4 aerobridges.
It's a start
Mildly amusing that the headline is about landing yet the video shown is the take-off.
Presumably everyone stays on board?
I know there are sites that track a flightpath. I'd be interested to see the track of a 747 OOL - BNE ?
Flightaware QF16 - OOL-BNE
18 minutes flight duration. Maximum altitude 5700 feet.
Would this be seat belts on the entire flight?

It's not really the flight 'back' from where they have diverted to, that is simply a matter of them obtaining a slot and then meeting it (no difference to normal operations). It's the diversion to the alternate that causes the drama, especially in a jet to OOL from BNE (or vice versa), not a lot of time to fit into a sequence. Luckily that morning it all worked quite wellThanks. Simpler than I thought. Gives an appreciation for ATC to be able to cope / co-ordinate unexpected changes like this.
