We start our Oneworld 280K trip in a couple of weeks with QF127 (747) to HK in J, seated 16AB.
I have noticed that CX have been releasing some J seats SYD-HKG, and I am a bit unsure whether I should stay loyal to QF or pay the points change fee and jump ship to CX.
They would both be daytime flights, so it comes down to which will be the better experience. We have done QF J a couple of times but not CX yet, although we do have two flights on this trip.
What would others do?

The new CX J Seat is amazing, probably my favourite going round at the moment! I am a true Qantas loyalist, and always try to fly them. If you were on the A380 to HKG i would say stick to QF, but its the 747, so older, i would go CX (in my experience food and drink offering has not been near as good as QF, but the seat is by far the winner!)

The J seat on CX100 flown on the 333 is far superior to the QF127 on the 747. If I have to fly Mon, Tues or Wed I would always fly Cathay unless like this week I have a paid booking for Thursday or Friday that I had to change to earlier in the week. It's worth paying the penalty to fly CX IMO.

Agree with all the above.

I'd rank the J offerings as:

1. QF A380 or revamped 747 with SkyBed II
2. CX A330
3. QF A330 or old 747 with Skybed I

1 & 2 are very close imho for couples travelling together, although single travellers might prefer CX given all seats have aisle access
3 is a very, very distant 3

Thanks all for your opinions.
If seats become available I'm going to change to CX.

I can't take a trick today

Flight CX162 15/05/2013 10.10 J SYD-HKG as an award flight is now showing as available on when I log in.

I have now rung QFF twice and it is not showing on their screens, so they are unable to change my booking.

Day before or after OK but not the 15th May, but we have to fly that day.

I have been told it's called false availability.

I'll try again tonight.

Good luck. I would choose the CX seat over the QF seat for the ability to push my iPad through the IFE onto the CX screen. Being P1 though I might also be hoping for an upgrade to F - if no F on your sector and a couple on an award I would go with CX.

I have just now been able to change my booking to

14.05.13 CX138 J 22.10 SYD-HKG
15.05.13 CX257 J 10.10 HKG LHR

New seats all the way.
