Just a heads up for anyone flying SYD-HKG on QF.

For most of August/September (according to the online schedules), QF127/128 will be operated by a 744 on Sundays (commencing August 5). This means the 388 is only available between SYD and HKG Th/Fr/Sa. Regular Sunday flights operated by a 388 seem to resume October 7.

But there are some inconsistencies in the timetable. For example QF87 operates on 14 October, but QF88 does not operate. So this could be subject to change.

Maybe pulling A380s whilst more get the controversial refurb?

Or preparing to cut capacity to 1 a330 per day, bye bye QF :( oh well i made the jump to MPC/Asia Miles anyway

I laugh at some of the conclusions drawn. It would seem that scheduling wise this may be the same issue as per QF11? on a Monday that already has been highlighted on the forum.

I think they're switching them to the LAX leg. QF12 on 15 Oct was switched from 747 to A380 yesterday. This was after they went from A380 to 747 back in June.

Made me check my booking in September but that is on a Friday anyway.

Demand on some of these routes is going up and down like a yo-yo.

I see QF12 on 15 Oct has now been switched back to a 747...firstly why are they switching this around so much? and how do they expect people to book expecting an A380 and get something else?

If you are in F there is an issue. However if in J, Y+ or whY then the hard product is the same now on the reconfigured 747s isn't it?

That only applies to a certain number of 747's though. Not all of them have the new product on board

laugh all you like, perfectly logical conclusion there - on SYD-HKG QF has been in retreat to CX's dominance for some time now. In coming months will go down to 1 747 a day on some days.

Axing HKG-LHR was a stupid mistake, what a surprise that J demand collapsed when people realised that they would end up on BA going via HK.

It is unlikely a 3 class 744 would be subbed for a 4 class 388.

The only 744 with the new product on board currently are three class.

You could say any port to HKG has been in retreat to CX, clearly frequency and smaller aircraft are the key:

What i cant understand is why QF chooses to put the old config 747 on QF12 route. On their website it clearly states all QF11 and QF12 flights are A380 ("correct as of June 2012" - which was not the case as they changed it in June). It is an old config as they offer First and the new config is only 3 class (J, Y+ and Y). They wont allow seat selection on the flight on 15 Oct so i suppose they havent made up their mind which of the two config 4 class 747's they're using. Its just that if the US market is such an important one for them (given the fact they've given up almost everywhere else) why they much around with inferior product (and i'm not even going to mention HNL).

It highlights QF's problem - inconsistency.

If you pay to fly F there should be an equal or similar F product regardless of the metal it's operated on.

If I wanted to fly F to London from
Perth I can't. I'm stuck in old J to Singapore and then F to LHR.

Similarly, a move from an A380 to a old-interior 744 in J would suck.

Similarly in Y+ and whY the new product in the 744ER and A380 has far better AVOD and seats than aboard the old 744's or 332/333.

Don't get me stated on Int 763's.

It's a joke. By the time Skybed II is fitted on all the 744 upgrades QF will realize that their product is outdated compared to new J product with direct aisle access from all seats and then what?!

Not to mention the domestic situation.

332's with 2-2-2 J
332's with 2-3-2 masquerading as J
767's in 2-2-2 with no AVOD
767's in 1-2-2 with loop AVOD
738's with AVOD and BSI
738's with AVOD and no BSI
738's with no AVOD
734's with a club Europe approach to Business class, no AVOD

It's a lottery as to whether your money gets you quality or some 1990's retro experience.

.

Every airline has fleet inconsistency.
Depending on funding/ depreciation rates etc, fleet purchases are a 10-20 year cycle

Seats seem to change every 5 yrs or so (or less)

---

I agree however that the SkyBedII does not have direct aisle access and is spacially inefficient (gap between seat in front to make up for the aisle access) and at least according to FT thread, has a tendency to experience bed droop - ie no longer fully flat.
Given they presumably have to switch to an off the shelf design for the 787 (the SkybedII is custom), I agree that QF would be better making this call now.

ARGH. This affects me!

A380 Y with a Y+ and J upgrade request, now changed to a 744 in 12 days.

This is clearly an issue for me. Unless I book an A330 for international flights I do not want my booking on a 747 or an A380 substituted for an inferior aircraft and cabin.

Why do people feel that only those booked in First have the right to complain? My money is just as good and my travel experience is also important. It matters not that I have paid less....

Unless you are on a re-furbed 747, there is no difference between the product on the 330 and 747. Any differences are perceived

Since Qantas have pissed off their customers so much flying across the Indian Ocean, might as well start to annoy your customers flying across the Pacific and claim the international business is unprofitable. QF 11/12 down to 388 4xwk too!

Seriously, Alan Joyce needs to be removed before he does any more damage to an Australian icon.

We can't deport Australian citizens.

And we could do without the offensive racist undertones of your comment, thanks. If he was black, would you say that we needed someone with white skin too??
