Hopefully a glitch but trying to book to Canada via La around Dec 25, Website forcing on on to American or Via Hawaii, Expert flyer shows Qantas flights to LA all zeroed out. Maybe the demand is lower that we think :)

I saw the same thing. I think because they’re adjusting in their booking systems. I hope! I much preferred the current timings vs leaving mid morning - both for jet lag and onwards connections.

Only QF11 is zeroed out, not QF12, and I’m pretty sure the timing is wrong (same as AA73). Cant see why they’d go back to parking an A380 in LAX for the day.

In the QF LAS thread
So what gets cut back to offer this - They mentioned that it will be a move around f exisitng US capacity so no new net seats just moving from either LAX or sFO/DFW etc.

I much preferred the late afternoon departure out of SYD for sleeping but I am also not surprised if they retime back to the old schedule for better connections.

The current timing still works for many connections (primarily within the western US), but not as many, and even when it works, it results in a far later arrival at the destination than an early QF 11 departure out of SYD can offer. Throw in a delay and you may well find yourself stuck at LAX overnight.

When they retimed QF 11 to late arvo, many also pointed to DFW and JFK as relieving connecting points, but DFW is only useful for connections that don't require much backtracking (basically ruling out half the country) and JFK doesn't make sense when it requires an additional stop in Auckland.

QF would also have the data from both before the change and AA currently to know what pax prefer, and with demand to the US at least somewhat under pressure, I can see why QF would be doing whatever it can to catch as much connecting traffic as possible... even if it means having the aircraft sit there an extra 6/7 hours.

I saw a suggestion somewhere that while the aircraft is sitting on the ground in LAX for longer, at least when it does, there's more time for maintenance. 🤷‍♀️
That may be a factor.
