QF11 Technical Problem - Return to Sydney 17 Jan 15

Its over 7 years since the a380 first commercial flight. ..

True, but seven years down the road there were many more 747-400s. And beyond that, it was a variant of the Classic, of which there were many.

There are not many issues at all, though they have more of a tendency to be reported on. And, unlike shorter haul aircraft, on which an issue may be carried for the entire duration of a flight, when setting off over a large ocean, with very few diversion points, caution is a good idea.

Anyone know if the 380 problems are unique to QF or are awe seeing similar issues with all airlines.

I suspect so but our international news service doesn't report on it
I think SQ has been having a number of problems as well.

.....and on the return leg, QF12 has been delayed with computer problems. "The PA system didn't pass the test". All passengers with lounge access were suggested to go back to the lounge (and drink heavily)

The aircrew have just come into the F Lounge to answer questions. Talking to the captain, the problem with the PA was that the oxygen system had a fault, and when they tried to reset it, the PA system gave up the ghost. So my understanding is that both systems are being worked on and they are hoping to have them fixed in the next hour. Alternatively, it will be another night in LA in a hotel or a long night in the F Lounge, as there are no spare aircraft and the aircrew will have exceeded their hours.

This makes 4 from 4 of my last international flights that have been significantly delayed, turned back, changed aircraft etc.

We were on this flight & this was the view from our window during the entire 1.5hr return to sydney. Approx 30 tons of fuel released. Not much profit made on this flight I'd imagine
