Just wondering if anyone knew the earliest time that you can check in and drop off your bags at JFK airport for a Qantas flight (QF108, JFK to Sydney via LAX). My friend has an earlier QF flight that day (we accidentally booked ourselves on different flights!!), and ideally we'd go to the airport together, but it is a lot earlier than my flight, and I don't want to have to hang around and wait for my flight to open.

What "earlier QF flight that day"? There is only one QF flight from JFK a day. QF108 from T7. Everything else are codeshares on AA out of T8.

She's on a codeshare flight with United. But that's somewhat beside the point. I'm not going to share a taxi with her if I can't check in until much later. I just wanted to know what people's experiences were with the check in desk at JFK opening for QF108

We have generally checked in around 4 hours before ie circa 3.00pm with absolutely no worries...unfortunately the BA lounge isnt the best but has plenty of champagne to help pass the time:)

Do you mean she's on a codeshare flight on American Airlines? I don't know of too many QF codeshares on United.

When we flew that leg last month, we were at the airport at about 1pm, the Business Class counter opened at about 2-2:30pm.
As for the Galleries lounge, only BA customers get hot food. The best you can hope for is sandwiches, chips and soup. But there is plenty of alcohol varieties to tide you over till the flight.

Unlikely to be codeshare, more likely to be UA flight purchased off the QF site.

That's another possibility although I just assumed it was a codeshare because OP mentioned "my friend has an earlier QF flight that day".

They could well be on a UA marketed & operated flight where the friend just assumed it was QF purely because it was booked on the QF website.
