Hi guys

Just a quick question:

Does QF107/108 (747) have the same fitout in J and Y+ as the Qantas 380's - mark 2 skybeds and same Y+ seats and pitch?

Since moving onto the 380's I do not want to go back but the timing of 107/108 would sit much better on a trip to Canada next year.

Thanks,
Mike

It depends somewhat on the day, which aircraft you happen to get. More often than not, yes, a refurbished 747 with A380 style Y+ and J is used, but this is obviously not 100% guaranteed. If you had some specific dates in mind, I'm sure someone could check which type of aircraft was scheduled on those days. :)

Thanks Matt,

Looking a little way ahead on Friday 21st Feb 2014

Expert Flyer shows it to be a refurbished 747 with upgraded Y+ and J, but as per the usual caveat, this is subject to last minute changes.

Thanks Matt

Yes i know that feeling with changes between Mk1 and Mk2 380's on a lot of my flights over the last year - not much impact if in J but it messes you around in Y+

Will have a further look into connections...

It's up to you whether you want to take the "risk" but to take the last month as an example, QF107 was operated by a refurbished aircraft every day except one. And on the day you have chosen, a refurbished aircraft has been scheduled. Even if the specific aircraft is subbed, there are still 8 other refurb'ed aircraft in the fleet. So I would probably just book QF107 if the timings work better for you as it is, IMHO very likely you would get a refurbished aircraft.

And more and more of the old 4-class , non-refurb'd planes are getting put out to pasture...

Don't know about Y to North America but did the J Sept 2012, Skybeds were fantastic in the refurbed 747, was in upper could not fault.

I'm flying on QF107 on the 30th of December and I've been placed in seat 4A, which I believe is not available on the refurbished planes. Can someone confirm if this is refurbished plane please?

4A appears only to be in the 4 class models and I dont believe these are refurbed...

EDIT: flew on -OJM for the LAX-JFK leg in Feb and it was a (very tired looking) 4-class that was packed to the gunnels due to the canx of the previous day's flight.

Thanks for your reply. So there are old 4 class planes flying around with F seats used as business? Is there a way of knowing this far in advance which plane it is or is that something only Qantas knows?

Look at row 4 arrangement: ? 1-2-1 or 2-2-2

At this time I don't have the option to select seats (it says that option only becomes available 7 days before the flight). I imagine this is because I'm on an I ticket.

I'm doing this sector on the 23rd Dec.....currently showing as a refurb'd bird.

EF is showing the 30th as 4 class......get in early and grab 1A. Maybe call them and request.

edit - only 1,3,4K, 3,4E and 4F left....call them.

Thanks for that info. Would you recommend going for 1A or switching to QF11?

See late edit above - 1A is gone.

I'm doing QF11 and then QF107 to JFK - slight misunderstanding on my part:oops:

I'd go with A380......particularly if you want to enter the upgrade lottery.

Thanks for your advice. I switched to 11. Have a great trip!
