suggested we download our own entertainment

I always download suffiecient programs/movies for the duration of the flight (at the hotel/airbnb before check-out) and then some; you never know when the IFE might not ork or may not have sufficient suitable content.

I found the wifi in the QF and BA lounges adequate, depending on qulaity you set for the download. Stranger was that BA lounges didnt have a toaster at breakfast time.

I have smart downloads turned on for my Netflix.
In general it’s far better than any of the TV available onboard.
For movies I’m old school and I go to Gold Class for any new release movies I desperately want to see.
Don’t wait until I’m traveling.

Just announced in departure lounge that IFE not working on some seats, suggested we download our own entertainment. Not sure how good they think Heathrow wifi is…
If you are going to do it, download before you board. From past experience difficult to get cell cignal once boarded at LHR T3 (low numbered gates).

Still at the gate, we completed boarding about 45mins ago, but they can’t get the airbridge to disconnect and retract so we’re a bit stuck!
I had the opposite issue arriving into LHR the other day on QF1. Took ages to connect airbridge.

I always have some backup IFE on me when I travel, which is ultimately made from wood pulp or similar. :p The only time it fails is if the lights aren't functioning on the plane, and if that's the case there are much bigger problems to deal with than lack of IFE.

Looks like this QF2 departed Singapore at 10:28 AM local, 58 minutes after the revised schedule of 9:30am. Expected into SYD at 8:36pm, so still plenty of time before the curfew.

Of course, the 20 or so "operationally spare aircraft" that the airline apparently has on standby, can only help if it is on the same airfield or that the delay is long enough to allow the spare to get to where it's needed.

Some of these may be in maintenance at any given time, I bet. The only way to be sure would be if the airline issued 'tail numbers' of the 'spare' aircraft, and it's not going to do that.

Talk's cheap.

I'm guessing this would absolve QF of all EU/UK261 compensation claims since passenger health is considered an extraordinary circumstance? Then again, I suppose one could argue that what difference does it make the cause of an inbound coming in late in the eyes of EU/UK261?

Hopefully the passengers get to enjoy the QF lounge at ATH. I hear the Souvlaki bar puts catering at other QF lounges to shame!

Just had my claim for UK261 for 520GBP approved! Qantas didn't even question it.
