Doing a bit of planning and would be grateful if someone in the know, could assist...

Dummy booking indicates a 1.5hr stop in Dubai, for which Q have advised me "is a refueling stop and passengers remain on the plane".
Obviously those flying Syd-Dubai would be getting off and those Dubai-Lndn would get on (vice versa on QF2) ?

Have differing bits of advice so would appreciate it if anyone can advise ?

Q. Is it correct that "transit" Syd/Lndn (and vice versa) passengers remain on plane (QF1 & 2).

and if so, 24hrs is a long trip, and I am thinking should take the trip using QF8413-QF9 and QF10-QF2 creating a 9hr break Dubai. It's been 25+ yrs since I last did this long haul.

Thanks for any help
John

Everyone disembarks in Dubai on both flights. The plane is cleaned, refuelled and re-catered.

Curious to know how Q advised you "is a refueling stop and passengers remain on the plane"??

Thanks flychrisfly, wish I had printed it out...was looking up on the Q website and one of those "can I help" windows opened so I asked the question "do passengers remain on the plane", the chap said to "wait while I check" and came back with the response as I have indicated.
Another has also disagreed on Trip advisor which prompted me to ask here.

Yes, I have learned to copy and paste all those on line chat conversations before hanging up, not that it would help in this instance. The chat line is not always correct in what they tell you, and it may take them 20 mins to actually give you that incorrect info.

cheers g.m.o.h. & flychrisfly.
Just had another conv. with another (copied it this time, not that it would help to much when I'm on the tarmac in Dubai "but you said" !!! lol) who, in respone to my q. "all passengers get off the plane whilst it is refueled/cleaned/recatered ?" said "that is correct".

It could influence however, whether I want a straight 24hr trip or a 24hr +9hr Dubai stop which of course only I can decide.

Everyone has to get off. I'd keep the flight on the same aircraft if I were doing the booking.

That's a concern if a company rep doesn't know some basic details about their flagship route. Sure, a flight out to whoop whoop prehaps some checking could be excused, but not only not knowing the answer to a basic question about 1, but then getting the final answer wrong is almost inexcusable. Are you sure you were on the QF website?

Big Plus one on that

Well - I'll roll this out for the n-th time... airline reservations staff are indeed excellent - at fares and ticketing. Anything else... seats, baggage, visas, lounge access - and in this case - what happens at a transit stop... best come to somewhere that actually knows (like AFF).

Airline staff that don't have front-line experience and can properly advise passengers can cause an awful lot of grief for the travelling public. We see it all too often unfortunately and best avoided if possible.

jandj, will you have any lounge access in Dubai? I fly Melbourne to Manchester via Dubai 2-3 times a year and I always break up the trip in Dubai for a few hours minimum. Mainly to stretch out, eat some real food and hang out/nap in the Emirates lounge. I personally just can't stand being on a plane for a full day.

Sadly no dand....., the 9hr break would have been worth serious consideration if we had. Looks like we will stick to QF1 & 2 and stretch our legs during the 1+hr break.
