QF001 14 Dec 08 - Delayed Departure?

G'day all,

Can anyone shed some light on the reason why QF001 scheduled for this Sunday (14 Dec 08) has been pushed back 4 hours?

I'm quite used to mechanical or operational delays forcing schedule changes, but not usually with this much notice...

I'm just curious whether I should suck it up and spend the extra 4 hours in the F lounge or switch to a later flight into SYD - just don't want to cut myself short if the departure time is changed again in the next few days.

If they have already announced the later departure , then I would change the connecting flight to a later one rather than add 4 hours to the journey time sat in an airport

Thanks Dave - Qantas finally called me today to explain the delay (rescheduling of that route) so we moved to a later flight CBR-SYD.

I was only concerned that we might move our CBR-SYD flight to find the SYD-LHR flight re-re-scheduled earlier again, but in hindsight that was a stupid concern. Must have been the early hour when I noticed the change online.

Hmm... - at least it's still on time at the moment so hopefully I won't be stuck here in the lounge for too much longer...

In case anyone is interested, I spoke with one of the FAs on the flight who mentioned that QF001 is running on the same aircraft as QF31/32 on Sundays due to the most recent 'mishap' in Avalon which put another 747 out of action. As a result QF001 is pushed back 4 hours on Sunday to wait for the in-bound QF32 from Singapore.

Although we were advised on Wednesday about the change apparently a number of passengers didn't get the message (probably those non-FF members with no contact details against their bookings) so there were plenty of upset people waiting at the gate when we finally boarded.

To Qantas' credit they allowed us to stay on board during the brief stop in BKK given the unusual arrival time of 3:30am.

We landed at Heathrow as scheduled about 1000 GMT on the 15th but were prevented from leaving the aircraft for about 15 minutes as we waited for Police to attend to some clown who got drunk and when he was refused more booze decided to lock himself in one of the toilets and wouldn't come out - for the last 2 hours or so of the flight right through the landing.

By the sounds of it QF1 will return to normal Sunday schedules in January either as a result of the repaired 747 returning to service or the second A380 being introduced into the schedule.
