@servicerequired are you travelling as a party of 1 with minimal luggage? When I travel to Japan solo and HLO I have no issues with catching trains to/from HND, NRT or any other airport. When I travel with Mrs&MissN there will be additional HL checked luggage and other stuff that they just seem to have so when travelling with them in tow I will use the limo bus, public bus or taxi. In general it is not common to travel with luggage on Japanese public transport, sure people do it but it does not make it correct. When travelling around Japan with the girls in tow I will often use the luggage forwarding services, it just works.

I have also done solo travel on trains to NRT and HND with 2 checked bags. (just not during morning peak time)

There is also the option of shipping bags to/from the airport and hotel.
Depending on arrival time of flight and what hotel you are going to, they can ship bags to your hotel to collect when you check in in the afternoon.
If you can be without the checked baggage for the last 2ish days of the trip, you can ship the bags to collect at the airport.

I have got the train between Yokohama and HND quite a few times and every second person (mostly Japanese) is travelling with checked luggage.

I’d say your use of “correct” is actually quite incorrect!

Just be considerate, don’t obstruct others with your luggage and nobody will care.

Point taken, I have never stayed in Yokohama area, I tend to stay in the Shinjuku area. If you have been at Shinjuku during the morning peak as the trains arrive and the door open people literally are pushed out of the carriage and onto the platform. Depending on the and time getting onto the train can be hit and miss. The other station that I have experienced similar is Maihama (family travel not solo) during the morning commute towards Tokyo.

I think many people on this thread don’t realise that Yokohama is not part of Tokyo. It’s its own city.

It would be more similar to getting a train from Gold Coast or Newcastle to the respective capitals, and having lived in both of those, both are more likely to have pax travelling with luggage compared to suburban trains.

I don't just think it is just this thread. I often read posts/TRs about travel to Japan, there are the usual suspects that often know what they are talking about and then there are others who chime in every now and again and after readings the comments I wonder if they have actually been there, planning to go or have been once or twice. Over the years I have posted on AFF we have most likely engaged in some type of banter around flights, locations and other stuff. I have been to Japan many times and most of my posts TR's would have been under a different handle/avatar, I have changed my details on this site and a few others as I suspect one of the email accounts I use may have been comprised.

Westin ...
Given you're slightly further from Yokohama Station, either a taxi or private shuttle ( i used nearme.jp) might be more convenient.

One other often common thing in Japan is taking a taxi to the nearest main train station. So its not crazy to take the taxi to the East Side of Yokohama station and then taking the keikyu train. I've most certainly done that in the past many times and is a common thing for Japanese to do as well.

Do note if you do take the train option you'll need to be mindful that only certain trains goto Haneda. If it doesn't, you'll have to take it to Keikyu Kamata and transfer at that station.

Westin ...
next door to PIA Arena. Going for an event?
(there have been lots of people staying at hotels in that area of Yokohama, which has a large amount of music venues, and then complaining about the events held at said venues)

That hotel is close to stations on the Blue and Minato Mirai subway lines and Sakuragichō JR/Blue line Station. The Keikyu trains from Haneda don't service those stations though so would need a change at Yokohama station for 1-2 stations.
The Minato Mirai line also has through service on the tracks of other companies through to the west side of Tokyo (Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro) and north into Saitama, so that might be an option for you if you head into Tokyo while you're there.

That's what I do when I stay at Hilton Yokohama.

The platform at Yokohama is colour coded. I believe the blue queues are the ones going to HND, IIRC. I also recall there being an aircraft on the train schedule screen for the trains going to HND - it's super easy to get the right train to the airport (and I don't speak any Japanese).

Ah i just walked back last time at Hilton Yokohama. I feel thats the limit of walking with a suitcase. I do believe we took a taxi to the hotel as we were buggered on arrival.

Yeh they usually have different lines, but if in a hurry you can take the normal train hop off at Kamata (the stop where it splits) and hop on one coming from the Shinagawa direction for the airport.

Easier to walk to the Hilton from Yokohama Station now that the bridge is open.

Yeah it's definitely walkable with HLO, I've done it, but if I've got checked luggage I'll get a taxi. It's like $10.
