FYI - upgrade to J was granted upon request for QF622 on 29/10 just after ticketing many months ago.

So there definitely does seem to be an issue with at least some bookings having problems confirming instantly for domestic upgrades where U is available.

I’ve had a similar issue which a clever person in HBA told me was due to upgrading one of two married segments.

QF733 SYD -> ADL T-24 upgrade from Y to J Nov 1
First time upgrade and made the post QF2 flight lethargy experience better.

QF2 SIN -> SYD no juice. Flight looked very full but lucky to have the 69D without seat behind for max recline. Missed out on 50A exit row which opened up at T24 as i forgot to press the confirm button.

This is a much better time of year for getting upgrades than most. It’s after the best weather in the Northern Hemisphere and too early to be Christmas holiday travel. Even so getting an op-up is amazing.

The LHR-SYD flights are close to full at the moment. A lot, including mine, were 0 across all fare buckets a few weeks out. I was very grateful when that elusive beep sounded at the gate on consecutive sectors.

Put in for points upgrade as SG for 3 of us. Reward Y to J then Y+ as 2nd chance draw.
Highly unlikely, went for upgrade more out of interest and data point.
3 hours, couldn't care less.

No luck on the return QF94 LAX-MEL as J was sold out. US J upgrades continue to be elusive while capacity is at 50% of pre COVID levels

Nice, I’m trying my luck on QF11 in 3 weeks. 787 out of Melbourne just doesn’t have the capacity for upgrade success

I use this to bring hope for my QF2 in early Dec, despite of jpp42's experiences...
BTW, is it more useful to request for a last-minute upgrade at the check-in / service / transit desk or in a lounge?
