QF Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

The upgrade gods smiled on my once again with y to j upgrades Syd-Sin and then also on return Sin - Syd for two pax, not bad for a NB. That takes me to 5 from 6 upgrade requests that have come through

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

My upgrade request from PE to J came through for QF28 today. At T-13 I saw the duplicate booking in my profile and about 4 hours later it had been processed. I had been allocated 15 J, but as I'm travelling alone I jumped on 5J :D

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

thought I would post about my recent points upgrade successes as I think that they were quite remarkable. Just got back from Japan and our PE to J upgrade requests came through BOTH WAYS ie SYD-NRT and NRT-SYD. What makes this especially remarkable I think is that there were 3 of us travelling. So that is 6 upgrades within a 3 week period. Status of requester is WP, other persons travelling are SG and NB respectively. :)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Apologies if this has already been covered - I did a quick search but didn't find anything useful. Does anyone have any idea whether upgrade requests from Y to J will take into consideration PE availability? Such as when there are no J seats available for upgrade but PE seats become available, would they automatically offer these to you instead? Thanks!

If you put in for an upgrade to J there is also a fall back option you can tick for a PE upgrade for flights that offer it.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Better late than never: Travelled to JFK on QF93 23rd October 2014, as Silver FF (with Qantas Club membership). Paid sale fare PE- but managed to get 2x upgrade to J using points. Same thing on return December 01 on QF 94- 2x J points upgrade. That is 4/4. Guess I was very lucky?

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

A very close call this morning, but I have also retained my 100% on requested upgrades as a WP. QF81 SYD-SIN had showed 0s in all J buckets for over a week, but yesterday, it went back to 2 available for sale in J, and then 1, and then 0 again this morning. When I checked in, the agent told me my chances were slim to nil, with all seats taken. Y BPs were, of course, issued. The F Lounge angels said the same, plus added that even Y was quite full so the shadow was also unlikely to stick.

I had all but accepted that this was going to be a relatively cramped ride up to the lion city, but then I got the magic red light and 'seating error' on scanning the Y BP.

2A was issued in replacement.

Never give up hope folks... Never give up hope!

Cheers,
Matt.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

QF 16 Fri 22 May LAX-BNE. Requested Y to J upgrade, fallback to Y+, up to gate. Y+ upgrade came through at T-24 or 22. Expert Flyer was showing J3 W<can't remember> in the days leading up to it, so I figured that J was a long shot.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Hubby is flying separately. He is WP. I am gold travelling with bronze children.
If he requests kids and my upgrades are they more likely to come through than if I request upgrades for kids and myself?

Indeed. All but one of my upgrades has been at the gate.

As you are booked separately I don't see how he can request your upgrade.

Just out of curiosity, did that end up being an op-up or did you still have your points deducted?

It won't matter whether they come from your account or his. The preferential upgrade benefit for family members only applies to WP1 not WP unfortunately.
Good luck :)

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Thanks
Have requested. Just wondered if his status bumped the request up the queue or it was linked to my or the kids status....Clutching at straws....

BTW are there now no free options apart from intro expertflyer membership to find seat availability in different seat classes?

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

You can request an upgrade for family members from your account. Whether or not you are on the booking is irrelevant.

Ah - ok. I recall seeing an area below your own bookings. Didn't realise that allows you to try to upgrade external bookings.

I had points deducted... but it wouldn't surprise me if it was an op-up of sorts, with advantage to QF, as it was pretty full in the back, and I reckon the twin J/K set that I was occupying would have been highly sought after by the odd couple that didn't think to pre-select!

Cheers,
Matt.

Don't think there are any free options and you are correct that it is the highest status amongst the travelling passengers that counts when upgrades are processed unless the requester is P1.
I'd be happy to look at loads on your flight on EF for you if you post here or PM me.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

mrsOpusman and I scored J->F from the upgrade fairy on QF94 last night :)

Was quite surprised actually, I expected F to be chockers due to refugees from the 747 subs but there were still 2 or 3 empty seats.

If you had points deducted then that's not an op-up.

It may have been grounds for an op-up under the old system when fewer points upgrades were granted & there was a need to bump up some pax from Y to J.

However I don't hear any people complaining lately that there points upgrade didn't come through & there were still empty J class seats in the cabin.
