QF80 NRT to MEL - 19th April - No Chance - was J1 for the prior two weeks with plenty of Y seats available - then the evenings JQ12 flight NRT to OOL got canned - 0's all round!

27 April Qf 7 Dfw-Syd J ---> F at old rate of 50K pts, notified at T -60 hours (Qf Plat). Wasn''t a surprise as there were 8 free F seats and J was full.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

P1 here got text confirming upgrade from Discount Business to first on QF2 exactly 7 days before the flight. On EK 6 am flight tomorrow SYD - DXB and DXB - LHR on QF ticket looks like there are empty seats in First so fingers crossed that I will get moved when I check in as has been the way every other time I'm on that plane.

SO you are looking for an operational upgrade on EK. For such recent success I would guess you are normally booked in full J.

EK aren't as generous anymore.

Spoke too soon as QF 8 was cancelled :(. Was rerouted AA in Y from Dfw to Lax, then NZ in J from Lax to Akl to Syd :(:(. 50K points has been refunded but do you think I should get any goodwill gesture points from QF having to endure AA in Y middle seat, 3 rows from back of the plane from Dfw to Lax?

QF93 MEL - LAX ~ 31 May ~ T-60 - J to F
At T-61 8 seats available in F, T-60 5 seats available in F, so I expect 3 WP pax upgraded J/F

Cant hurt to ask....but you had a win getting moved to NZ for the Transpac....(wink wink wink...:mrgreen:)

Success 2 x Y+ to J on tomorrow's QF27 to SCL from SYD. 3 J/K allocated. Bid Now down to SYD from BNE (min 3000 points plus $50 each) also accepted so pretty chuffed :)

Finally, my 100% record has been blighted. A day trip to SYD a couple of weeks only yielded one upgrade Y-J. The return flight was chockers so had to slum it in 8D.

I'll need to go away and work out the actual percentage but it would still be in the high 90s.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Upgrade from Y>J for QF81 SYD-SIN yesterday confirmed at T-0.35... upgraded just prior to the boarding call in the F lounge! Still at 93% for upgrades as WP. J cabin was full, but it was very empty behind the curtains.

p.s. I caught a peek at the pax manifest for J while chatting with a FA, and there looked to be only one pax who was not FFPL or higher. I thought a pretty high rate of elites for the one international flight?

Cheers,
Matt.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

I tried to upgrade with my wife from economy to business n a MEL to LAX flight last year, even bought points so we had enough and applied early. Being a bronze FF I guess we never had a hope. I was pretty bummed when we found out that we didn't get the upgrade, guess I got my hopes up for nothing. It was our only chance at upgrading on that flight.

I asked again on the return flight, first I asked if there were any available seats and was told yes so then asked if we could points upgrade and told no, only to pay the difference which was never going to happen. Oh well nothing ventured nothing Ng gained. Ad.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Was it almost as cheap to just buy the points (or get them for free through bonuses) and just redeem them for two J awards straight out??? Although the Trans-pac routes are hard to redeem award seats unless like 10 months ahead as they go fast, and as a Bronze i'd say almost no hope of J upgrade even in the best case scenario of a Tues/Wed flight...

the points I was short cost $150 or something and I thought applying as soon as I could would get us over the line. Oh well. One day maybe. Flying to NYC in August maybe the gods will shine on us! A blokes allowed to dream.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Oh definitely it will happen if you haven't flown J before... Once you learn he game it becomes quite easy and regular... J on QF can be a bit harder on those Trans-Pac routes for award redemptions, but there are better J products out there anyway... Just as a bronze the upgrade route might be slim pickings...

I have had the J upgrade before but that was on a PER to MEL and that was easy. I need a job where I fly for work again.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Just got back last week from Europe had a SYD>BKK>DXB>LHR with SYD to LHR on the Emirates A380 but the DXB>LHR segment on Qantas - All on J. Booked the one segment on Qantas hoping for an upgrade to J. Got it for 12,500 QF points and really really enjoyed my first F experience on A380.

One thing to note even though i was starting my SYD>DXB on J on Emirates as there was an F in the final destination i was allowed access to the SYD F lounge :)
