No real surprise, in addition to the peak Christmas period the CNY services are being upgraded.

Upgrade to Hong Kong Services Over Chinese New Year14 July 2014

To cater for strong demand over the Chinese New Year, Qantas will upgrade its Sydney-Hong Kong service to an A380 aircraft.

Effective for services on 14 and 15 February 2015, and 27 February to 2 March 2015 inclusive, QF127/128 (Sydney-Hong Kong) will be upgraded from a reconfigured B747 aircraft to an A380 aircraft.

This follows the recent upgrade to the A380 aircraft to support additional capacity requirements during the peak holiday season – 11 December 2014 – 26 January 2015.

Hong Kong is a key market for Qantas and is integral to our strategy in Asia. The recent opening of our new premium Qantas Hong Kong Lounge demonstrates not only how the Qantas Group continues to invest where it matters most to its customers, but is also part of a broader commitment to Hong Kong as a key hub for the region. Qantas operates 21 return services per week between Australia and Hong Kong, on a mix of reconfigured B747, A380 and A330 aircraft.

Any data on the market share on this route? It must be profitable for QF. They have worked for their money here unlike the LAX route which was protected for many years.
