QF up Fuel surcharges again

Qantas announced today it would again increase international fuel surcharges as a further response to continuing rises in oil and jet fuel prices. The changes will apply to tickets issued on or after 17 March.

Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alan Joyce, said oil and fuel prices remained an increasing concern for the aviation industry

For tickets issued on or after 17 March, the new fuel surcharges (A$ one way ex-Australia) will be:
- UK and Europe - $190 (new) $145 (previous)
- Mainland USA, Canada, South America, South Africa and India - $150 (new) $115 (previous)
- Asia, Pacific, Honolulu - $105 (new) $75 (previous)

More pain coming. QF may have great yield management but their hedging must really suck.

I can't find a press release on the DJ website or anywhere else implying that they are also increasing their fuel surcharges again. Also, it may not be as visible if the Virgin Group (indeed, any other airline) add fuel as a Q charge in the fare construction (which is arguably the more "notable" thing to do, i.e. put fuel as a base fare component rather than a tax/fee/surcharge).

Is anyone not yet convinced that alternative fuel research needs to be given much more attention?
