So If i booked MEL-xSYD-OOL , I would get 20 SC's and 2000 points instead of 15SC's and 1000 points with JQ going direct MEL-OOL?
In my opinion the 2,000 QFF points is the big earner here. I would value 2,000 QFF points at ~$50 where as some would value >$100 which in a way is more than the airfare paid.

I booked SYD-OOL return as part of the sale. Cheap weekend away in February.

Even with the fare now $129 ex MEL, I still think its great value fare to OOL.

Is that the airfare from MEL! A bargain. ;)

Although if a direct flight is scheduled sometime in the future you wouldn't think the connecting airfare won't be the same price.

It's interesting that the fare has settled at $129 when MEL-SYD sits at $133 normally.

3 same day returns booked MEL-xSYD-OOL vv over the summer for $88 each way, exit row seats on every sector

Preparing for plenty of confused looks from FAs on the turnaround flights!

New route, probably want to give it time to settle.

I wonder what the special price will be... 109 / 99 ?!

Well this is going to be interesting.
Theirs a core of OOL-Sydney weekly commuters who all left Qantas when Qantas left the route to the terrible Jetstar who do not value frequent flyers.
The Virgin lounge on a monday and tuesday is packed for the 6AM and 7 am flights,Its almost more peaceful sitting outside.
Clearly this was a bungle on qantas s strategy.
Their are a LOT of business people who commute myself being one for nearly five years.
It will be interesting to watch who of these defect back tom qantas now they have their hard earnt Velocity Platinum status.

Apologies if this has been posted already. I've noticed posts alluding to potential lounge morph dates at OOL.

This is from the JQ GC Lounge FAQ section:

Important Notice: The Gold Coast Lounge will close from mid September 2012. The closure will see a Qantas Club open in Gold Coast airport in late 2012.

So it's a slightly open book on when the QP will (re)open.

As long as it is opened by Jan 13, 2013 I'll be happy!!;)

The QF site is also saying that a 'new' QP will open late 2012. It would be nice if it were open by 28 Oct so I could get the trifecta (first flight in, out, and first day of lounge). Not that I would chase that sort of thing. ;)

Business class sale is now on. $339 MEL-OOLvv....
Good SCs opportunity for anyone that needs it. Especially if you have double SCs offer.

I believe that would earn 80 SCs and 2,500 QFF points.

And it would appear that ADL-OOL is a little better at 100 SCs for $369.

Some very cheap flexi saver fares on sale too from MEL-OOL via SYD. Even if you only wanted to go MEL-SYD on a flexi saver, purhcase a MEL-OOL fare and save about $60, and just not use the SYD-OOL sector!

Which dates? The ones I see now are $189 where as a couple of weeks ago they were $159. :(

Yes the $189 ones. I guess not that cheap, but comparing it to a base level MEL-SYD standalone flight it is :)

It is still cheap and a return flight earns 80SCs and 4,000 QFF points for ~$378. Not a bad deal for domestic.

And if you had a double SCs offer....
