Sorry if this has been answered before.

I have an upcoming trip where I am flying QF from MEL to SYD and then on a separate booking JQ from SYD to HNL. I see that I can transfer between the terminals on the Qantas bus. When I check in at MEL can I get my luggage checked and tagged all the way through to HNL and also get my boarding passes or will I have to collect the luggage at SYD and recheck everything again.

Thanks

Actually what serfty was asking is: is the QF trip from MEL-SYD on the same booking as the Jet* trip from SYD-HNL?

Noting you have said they are separate bookings, i.e. it sounds like you have one ticket for the MEL-SYD trip and another ticket for the SYD-HNL then you will most likely have to pick up your luggage in SYD and then check in at Jet*. One of the posters here who knows these things a bit better will provide the definitive advice.

Hopefully you have allowed several hours between trips to snure you have enough time to complete the new check in requirments.

When I did the same thing in 2006 I had to pick up bags at T3 SYD and catch the Int transfer bus to T1 and check in with JQ. I didn't think that JQ interlined baggage with other airlines including its parent. Maybe things have changed sice then. With two bookings I'd definitely say no.

We did the same thing may 2008, to seperate bookings qantas melbourne checked our bags straight through to jetstar sydney. On the return trip we had to collect bags in the international airport Then re check them in at the qantas bus transfer station ,all very easy.

Just to claify, one booking is with QF and then a seperate booking with JQ for the International flight.

I have 1hr 40 transfer in SYD but if QF can't check the bags all the way through I will need to change to an earlier flight.

I would definitely change to an earlier flight for the MEL-SYD sector - 1hr40min is an uncomfortably tight connection.
