I'll soon be travelling ADL-SYD-AUH on an AAdvantage award, QF for the first leg and EY for the second. Will I be able to transfer my baggage right through to AUH, or will I have to pick it up in SYD?

As the QF & EY flights are on the same ticket baggage will be tagged through from ADL to AUH - just make sure you go to a CSA to check you in otherwise the kiosks may short tag your bag to SYD if your on-carriage flight is not QF.

Not sure if there's an IATCI agreement with QF & EY so you might need to get your SYD/AUH b/pass from EY at SYD T1.

Thanks Oz, that's extremely helpful! I can see the SYD-AUH leg via QF Manage My Bookings, but I'm not sure if that will be enough for them to be able to issue a boarding pass. But in any case, it's the baggage I'm more concerned about. Plenty of time to check in again if need be.

It's purely whether there's an inter airline through checkin agreement in place so the CSA "seeing" an EY flight as oncarriage has no bearing on getting an EY b/pass.

Some TA's book QF & VA flights at the same time via a GDS however as QF have no IATCI agreement with VA they can't issue a VA b/pass.

You'll still be able to use the free QF tarmac bus from gate 15 at T3 around to T1.

Can you try to OLCI with EY? You may still need to see EY checkin for a lounge invite though.

Worth going to the EY check in to get a priority card for immigration too, as SYD can be a nightmare.
If I hadn't had a priority card when I travelled SYD-AUH on EY last month I may have missed my flight.

Hi incumbent. Was this booked as a single award? Always wondered if this was possible as a single award for 30/45/60k in Y/J/F/...

Yes it is possible.
I've done it the other way AUH-SYD-MEL many times on one AA ticket. Boarding pass for the QF sector was not provided upon check-in at AUH.

Hi zainman, yes, a single award with the domestic leg in J and the international leg in F for 60k.

I'll definitely give that a go, thanks.

I'd take note if esseeeayeenn's post above re seeing EY J checkin for an express immigration card, EY b/pass reprint plus lounge invite if applicable.

Duly noted, thanks :-)

I've got something like 12 hours between flights, so the plan is to head into Sydney for a few hours anyway. I tend to check in with the operating airline anyway just as part of the overall experience.

Seems they will be able to go to the F counter instead!

Indeed, although it's a stand up counter, not the lounge suites they have for F checkin at T3 in AUH.

Thanks for all the help! I'm guessing check in (and more importantly the lounge) will open around three hours prior to the flight?

Indeed they will.

Update from the OP.

Checking luggage through was no problem at all.

I was able to get an EY boarding pass via OLCI, but had a very nice check in experience at SYD nonetheless.

I thought the a la carte food in the lounge was outstanding.

Currently about to land in KUL due to a medical diversion, let's hope she pulls through.

Ultra-charming lady in the little lounge area who helped me get connected to WiFi turned out to be an AFF participant. (Thanks again, if you see this! :-)
