Hi
Am travelling to the Caribbean next week QF:SYD/DFW arriving13.45 AADFW/MIA dept 17.40 then overnight MIA and on to SXM next morning (11ish) . Travelling in J as a One World Emerald, can anyone help me with the best lounges to visit? I tried a search only to discover that the QF lounge in DFW is only open in the evening. The lounge in terminal E MIA also seems to be only evenings. Suggestions for breakfast in Mia? (am staying in airport)
Thanks
PS Congratulations to all of those heading to Rockpool on Tues- have a wonderful time!!

Rolls,

You should have access to the AA Admiral's Club lounges in DFW. MIA has Admiral's Clubs near Terminal D gates 15 and 30 with the gate 30 lounge being the better of the two. The Terminal E lounge - shared with BA and Iberia - is the best lounge but only opens in the afternoon and evening. I've never escaped the terminal in MIA so I've no breakfast suggestions outside the terminal. There's a Mexican themed breakfast available in Terminal D near gate 15 which is OK and better than anything you can get at the AA lounges.

Enjoy the Caribbean!

Thanks FF , Have you stayed in the MIA airport hotel?

Re: QF SYD- Caribbean via DFW

No. I've travelled through MIA around 20 times in the last 2 years to/from the Dominican Republic but have never had the need to stay overnight. I've found the connections from Australia to MIA are better through LAX than DFW which removes the need to overnight in MIA.

Re: QF SYD- Caribbean via DFW

In MIA D30 Admirals Club now.

The E oneworld lounge is the best of them with self service F&B - as a QF Elite you should have access. I would be there if it were open. (11:40am currently.)

MIA terminal D is long, so if your SXM gate is 20 or below, I suggest using the D15 lounge anyway, same with D30 for high D gate numbers.

DFW has 4 AC's, use the one nearest your MIA departure.

Thanks Serfty, Was there any food in the D30 lounge? We will also be in MIA during the morning. when I realised the E Lounge and the QF DFW lounges would both be closed when we were there, I decided to ask AFFers for help!
Have a safe flight

Neither D15 or D30 have free food but have free beverages (using QF status). Paid yes.

I thought all ACs had free soft drinks and basic alcoholic drinks - at least last time I was there they did. Have things changed?

I'm not sure why you'd stay at the airport in MIA. If you've not been before, you should find a hotel in South Beach. It's about 30 mins in a cab from the airport. I've been there a couple of times for a long layover in MIA (like 5 hours or so) and don't regret it.

We are arriving 21.30 leaving in the morning, it didn't seem worth a transfer. That said the airport hotel doesn't look that flash !

MIA is an all night city depending on what you are into :) It's one of those places you could actually not sleep at all and find a nice bar to sit in all night....

You will be given two vouchers for drinks - these allow pretty much any drink except top shelf stuff. The basic drinks though are still free - beer (one only), wine and basic spirits + mixers.

I read somewhere that emerald FF's are given vouchers is that the case?

Correct as are sapphires. I just edited my post when I realised I mentioned there wasn't any free drinks.

Am starting off at a nice bar in SYD (1st class lounge) by the time we reach MIA will need a bed in preparation for starting again the next day. - Which looks like Mexican for brekky in terminal D!

As an example, the complimentary beers available in the D15 MIA lounge last week were Budweiser, Bud. Light & Amstel light.

The vouchers were good for "Sam Adams" or any of the other beers they had there.
