QF surcharge on SYD-DFW flight

You would need more than one A380 to do the SYD-DFW-BNE-SYD rotation on a daily basis. Might also be useful for you to check figures on fuel consumption and tank capacity of the A380 vs B744-ER.

This is correct.

Someone else said in this earlier that QF might introduce 'an A380' on the SYD-DFW route.

However, markis10 said a year ago that QF only has one spare A380 of its 12. This is because on the current timetables it needs three for each of the MEL and SYD-DXB-LHR rosters, two for each of the MEL and SYD-LAX rosters and one for the less than daily SYD-HKG and return forays. This equals 11.

jb747 recently went further and claimed that QF does not have any spare A380s, but this does not seem correct unless that member is taking account of how much or all of the time one of the 12 is in planned maintenance.

Granted, in November 2014, QF9 and QF10 are being retimed which may 'save' an A380 by more efficient rostering, but I still cannot see how QF could suddenly 'find' two A380s to operate the long DFW route. No one has suggested that QF will purchase or dry or wet lease further A380s.

Is the suggestion that the A380s will appear on the DFW route just wishful thinking? (I have assumed that QF will not remove A380s from its LHR, LAX or HKG routes).

With efficient timing, the SYD-HKG route only needs 1 aircraft to be daily. There is an "extra" A380 on the days QF127/128 does not operate with an A380.

What next are they going to put a surcharge on Friday afternoon flights.

Not quite a surcharge but that happens already on some routes.

There are 4-5 BNE-SYD afternoon flights where there are no red e-deal airfares available and the cheapest airfare is ~$165 when red e-deal airfare is ~$89.

I don't get why Qantas keeps releasing these memos to TA's. They end up in the hands of the media, who inevitably report it as a price rise affecting all tickets, when in reality it's a pricing reorganisation between base fares and surcharges that results in no increase to standard fares. The penalties are effectively on FF and RTW fares only.

What is the need to report it to TA's? Qantas gets all of the negative publicity associated with a perceived all ticket price rise, for minimal revenue benefit.

AFAIK QF have confirmed that the Q Surcharges do NOT apply to bookings made with FF points.

No doubt they also monitor sites like AFF and FT... that alone is probably enough let alone the industry news site.
