Just back from Qantas office in town, as i am putting together a rtw in f for early next year.
Am a bit puzzled about the status credits that i will earn on the flight, especially so as the qf rep told me that i would only earn status credits on the qf metal part of the journey.
I was of the understanding that all eligible flights with partner airlines would earn status credits.
For the record my proposed journey as it stands is as follows:
perth-brisb-la-vegas-la-new york-barbados-london-dubai-london -hong kong-sydney-brisbane.
Can anybody comment on the status credits that will be earned in f, i will be trying to travel qf where possible, any other comments or additions to the itinerary would be appreciated<
thanks in advance

The QF rep doesn't know what he's talking about.
Here's the relavant quote from the Qf website: (my underlining)

"Qantas Frequent Flyers can earn* points for travel on eligible^ oneworld flights and fare types, as well as earning status credits towards your Frequent Flyer status."

Frequent Flyer - Earning Points - Air

The rep was wrong - you earn SCs on all eligible partners which include all of oneworld. You need 4 Qantas Group flights to earn/retain status though, but like you said you'll be on QF as much as possible so that won't be a problem.

BNE-LAX has no F, and so you might want to think about SYD-LAX, or SYD-JFK-LAX-LAS-DFW-JFK-BGI? ;)

Also, JFK-BGI only has business and economy.
And make sure LAX-LAS is mainline AA instead of American Eagle otherwise you will be booked into economy.

The Mileage monkey tool is a good way of calculating SCs; here's ur existing itinerary and the QF Scs you'll earn:

Thanks guys,
that was also my understanding of it, preety bad when a rep in a major metrop. office does not know the basic stuff.
For the record i will pick up the f flight from sydney to la, but the only flights i have been offered between vegas and la have been on american eagle, is there a mainstream flight that will connect up with the qf service through to new york on the same day????

There is 1 AA mainline flight between LA and vegas daily, operated by MD80 aircraft. Not sure of the schedule but you can't be booked on QF for LAX-JFK if you're not connecting to/from an international QF flight. AA flies LAS-JFK directly though.

Thanks for that info , i was not aware that you could not pick up the qf flight, is the only alternative aa business class??

It doesn't sound like you actually need to be in LAX?

LAS-JFK is a 2 class service and so you'll be booked in First. Departs LAS ridiculously early though.

Which LAS-JFK flight are you looking at QF009? From the oneworld schedules program I can't any direct flights LAS-NYC - only via ORD/MIA/LAX and some of those go into EWR or LGA :/

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Whoops I forgot to mention that it's a new service.

From 05SEP, AA flies JFK-LAS-JFK daily with 757s.

AA257 JFK-LAS 1620 1900
AA258 LAS-JFK 0735 1530 (starts 06SEP)

So if this doesn't fit into the travel date, the only way to get F SCs LAS to NYC is via DFW, MIA or ORD.

Note that it does not need to be a direct connection between to the LAX-JFK flight. You just need to have arrived into the USA on QF or be departing the USA on QF to be eligible to fly the LAX-JFK or JFK-LAX segment on QF.

The mainline AA flight between LAX and LAS is AA784 and departs LAX at 12:05pm.

I can't bring up Flyertalk now but I'm pretty sure it needs to be a same day international connection or transit w/o stopover?

Nope. Definitely does not need to be same-day connection. In fact, you could arrive into the USA on QF73 SYD-SFO and still tale QF107 LAX-JFK so long as its on the same itinerary.

But if you fly CX, AA or JL trans-Pacific instead of QF then you cannot take any QF flights numbers (even codeshares) in the USA.

Nice! :D

Disregard everything I said about F SCs LAS-JFK on AA then.

So does this mean that if i arrive in la with qf, take a side trip to vegas for a week, return to la on a domestic flight, i can catch the qf service to ny.The only purpose of going back to la was so i could catch a direct 3 class service plane to jfk...cheersfor all this info....its gold

Yes, so long as its all on the one itinerary. So it part of a xONEx then no problems.
