Hi,

I was just hoping someone could clarify a point for me and save me trawling through the T&C from each airline.

I have QF SG status (OW Sapphire). If I am flying Cathay crediting to my Asia Miles account will I still have access to the Qantas lounge at my departure point ?
Conversely I assume I will have access to Cathay lounges in transit at HKG even though my status is not via Asia Miles ?

I know this sounds like an obvious question but I flew MH few months ago crediting to Enrich and an "overly helpful" Qantas check-in person insisted that I should change to add my QFF number instead, on the basis that if I did not I would not get access to the Qantas lounge. At the time I could not be bothered arguing, but I was pretty sure they were wrong.

Just would like to head to the airport without having to worry about this.

cheers

Qantas changed things last year - for a Qantas member to be using their Qantas status to access a Qantas (or emirates) lounge they need to be crediting the travel to their Qantas Frequent Flyer membership.

There are reports of members doing this and changing the crediting (on-line) once in the lounge.

Wow, astonishingly swift response.

Thanks serfty, you have saved me some grief at the airport. I assume this was all part of "Simpler and Fairer" (tm) ;)

May give this a go. Will earn more against Asia Miles and don't need the QFF points or status.

Lounge Access

  • A world of lounge privileges
Gold members can enjoy access to Qantas Clubs and International Business lounges for you and one guest and up to two children (aged between 4 and 17)[SUP]37[/SUP] when flying on eligible Qantas and Jetstar flights. Plus you also have access to over 600 oneworld airline lounges around the world when flying on eligible flights with a oneworld alliance airline. View oneworld lounge locations.
  • Ensure your Qantas Frequent Flyer number is in your booking to be able to access the lounge using your Qantas Frequent Flyer card. You can do this online through Manage Your Booking.
As indicated, your Qantas Gold card can be still used to access any non Qantas oneworld lounge before flying a oneworld marketed and operated flight while crediting to another airlines Frequent Flyer program.

Now I am confused. Serfty suggests SG can only have QF lounge access if they accredit non-Qantas OW flights to QFF? The Qantas website states access to their lounge at HKG (a key CX destination) is "Next onward flight that day must be on a Qantas^, Emirates^, Jetstar Airlines+ oroneworld operated and marketed flight.# One guest allowed and must be travelling with the member on the same flight." The same seems to apply to Australian lounges (unless I misunderstand things).

When travelling MEL-AKL at the end of my recent LHR-MEL trip booked with AAdvantage Miles the check in person at the MEL F check in asked me if I wanted to change my AA number to my QF number.

I was ok with this because the flight wasn't earning anything and it meant that QFi knew who I was so win/win.

With CX my experience has been no, as QF wants a printed lounge invite from CX (as otherwise CX reportedly won't pay QF) and CX won't issue the lounge invite unless you are crediting to that program.

Might be able to change it later of course.

You need to look at the footnote indicated by the caret.

Following is the footnote:
^ said:
Lounge access eligibility is based on the class of travel, Qantas club membership or the Frequent Flyer Membership tier for your next onward flight.
"Membership Tier for your next onward flight" is the key.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

However, I now must express a Mea Culpa - It seems things may have changed somewhat.

The rule of thumb seems to be QF, QFF, QF (Flight, Status, Lounge)!

To the OP, since you are on a CX flight there is no such reference as indicated in the post above.

If your CX flight is departing from PER, as an SG, here is the footnote: (Lounge Locations | Australia | Perth International | International Business)
Gold Frequent Flyer said:

...

^ Lounge access eligibility is based on the class of travel, Qantas club membership or the Frequent Flyer Membership tier for your next onward flight.

+ Jetstar refers to Jetstar Airlines (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K), Jetstar Japan (GK) and Jetstar Pacific (BL).

# A oneworld marketed flight refers to a flight with a oneworld flight number, eg QF1 or AA222. A oneworld operated flight refers to the actual aircraft or 'metal' on which you fly, eg Finnair aircraft.
The part I highlighted in Red does not apply as you would be on a CX flight.

The ^ is Specific to Qantas and Emirates flights, and does not apply to non QF onewolrd flights.

I have found that in hkg only when flying CX and accessing either cx lounges or qf lounge they don't care about the lounge invite cards.
However in 90% of foreign cx ports(that I have been to)I've been asked for the invite in both CX's own lounges (eg.kul) and other OW lounges including qf.
Lounge invites seem such an antiquated way of getting access to lounges, not to mention a waste of paper!

I recently flew CX to HKG on an Dividend Miles redemption (with my USDM number on the booking).
A printed lounge invitation was given to me in Perth but in HKG I just showed my BP and qantas card to get into the Wing 1st lounge.

Also stopped by the CX lounge in FRA a couple of weeks ago when travelling BA on an AA redemption - same thing, BP and Qantas card only were required for entry (and much better than the appalling JAL Sapporo 1st Lounge that BA directed me to).
